4 SF Regiment provides South Africa its seaward Special Forces capability. The unit was
established in the coastal town of Langebaan, Saldanha in 1978. The regiment consists of three
operational commandos and a Special Forces amphibious and urban school. This contract consists
of two different components. One being the construction of a quay wall and the other the actual
building itself. The sequence of these two components is very important due to the proposed
building being located on the edge of the high tide water line. This necessitates the completion of
the quay wall before building work starts. Construction staff are ferried from Langebaan across the
lagoon to site on a daily basis. Material deliveries are made through the Postberg Section of the
West Coast National Park. Completion due in November 2011.
