Heather Roy addresses the challenges facing diaconal work in Europe in 2011 at the Conference of Nordic City Missions. She identifies the primary challenge as a "crisis of values" in European societies, where economic growth and individual wealth have become priorities over solidarity and social prosperity. The financial crisis exacerbated issues of inequality and poverty. For diaconal organizations, the social impacts of the crisis have increased demand for assistance while funding for social services has decreased. Roy calls on diaconal groups and churches to advocate for a reevaluation of societal values and a move away from growth-focused policies towards cohesion, solidarity, and social well-being.
This document outlines Finland's strategy for advancing European policy on Roma inclusion. It establishes the objective of actively influencing the development of a European Roma strategy by offering Finnish models and experiences. The vision is founded on complementing the EU, Council of Europe, and OSCE's strategies with a focus on human rights and socioeconomic goals for Roma populations. The strategy outlines Finland's basic principles, policy guidelines, and good practices across areas like education, employment, housing, and non-discrimination. It proposes recommendations for Finland to engage in the EU, Council of Europe, OSCE, and bilaterally to promote Roma inclusion and influence international Roma policy.
This document summarizes a speech given by Miranda Vuolasranta at a dialogue seminar on Roma inclusion in Brussels. Some key points:
1) The seminar aimed to promote mutual dialogue and an open examination of the human rights situation facing Roma in Europe today.
2) Roma must be enabled to participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating measures to improve their situation at local, national, and international levels.
3) The inadequate implementation of Roma human rights is one of the most severe human challenges in Europe today, as violent attacks against Roma are increasing amid economic crises.
4) Cooperation is needed at the EU level to address issues facing Roma
The document discusses the history and challenges faced by Roma populations in Europe. It notes that Roma originated in India and began migrating to Europe in the 900-1100 AD period. For centuries, Roma faced persecution, discrimination, and lack of rights in European societies. More recently, there have been efforts by European institutions like the EU and Council of Europe to promote Roma inclusion and rights, but Roma populations still face high levels of poverty, discrimination, and hate crimes in many European countries. The document calls for greater cooperation and mainstreaming of Roma issues in European policies to address these ongoing challenges.

13. Oppsummering av vårt første år
• Vi er nødvendige, men ikke tilstrekkelige
• Om måloppnåelse:
• yter helsehjelp, videresluser, dokumenterer, sprer kunnskap
