Heinz Von Foerster was invited to the 6th Macy Conference to present his quantum mechanical theory of memory. The Macy Conferences brought together interdisciplinary scientists to discuss topics like system theory and cybernetics. Von Foerster later founded the Biological Computer Lab at the University of Illinois to research parallel computation inspired by biological systems like the eye.
