Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States. It is often only detected once it has progressed and causes symptoms requiring emergency care, such as heart attack or stroke. Genetics and certain illnesses like diabetes contribute to heart disease risk. However, lifestyle factors including diet, exercise, and stress management can help prevent and slow the progression of heart disease. Regular doctor visits, eating a healthy low-fat diet, exercising for more than 10 minutes daily, and reducing stress can significantly reduce risks and trips to the emergency room related to heart disease.
