It involves combinations of initiatives across many sectors including health, education, economics and politics that are designed to bring about positive changes to populations' attitudes, behaviors, social conditions and environments to improve health. Key principles of health promotion according to the WHO include involving communities as a whole in everyday life contexts rather than just focusing on disease prevention, acting on determinants of health through multisectoral cooperation, and using diverse and complementary methods.
