1. Head Consultant Hydrogeologist
The Company:
Antamina is one of the ten largest mines in the world in terms of operating volume and an important
poly-metallic mining complex that produces copper, zinc and molybdenum concentrates, and silver and
lead concentrates as by sub products.
The mine is located in the district of San Marcos, Ancash Region, 200 km. from the city of Huaraz at an
average altitude of 4,300 meters above sea level. The company has its own port, called Punta Lobitos
located in the coastal province of Huarmey.
Compania Minera Antamina SA is a company incorporated under Peruvian law, product of a joint
venture between four leading companies in the world mining industry: BHP Billiton (33.75%); Xstrata
(33.75%); Teck (22.5%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (10%)
Location: Lima, Peru
Reporting line: Geotechnical Development Superintendent
Mission:
Develop and strengthen hydrogeologic strategies for the company considering the design and
implementation of controls for waste deposit, ion and seepage from the tailing basin as well as ensuring
hydrogeologic designs for the long, medium and short term
Specific tasks:
• Conduct hydrogeological studies for geotechnical development according to a 5-year plan needs
• Validate and monitor actions performed by contractors and strategic partners, including drillers
and hydrogeological consultants
• Strict project costs control: Reviewing budget and work plan
• Implementation of designs and models (together with consultants) in order to achieve
hydrogeological development
• Coordinate and evaluate drilling and monitoring programs with the corresponding areas
• Identify required data to ensure the regional hydrogeological model
• Prepare and develop a water balance for the entire company
• Characterization of hydrogeologic units (aquifers) for field testing
• Develop engineering plans, conduct field surveys and sampling to obtain the necessary
information to enable us to ascertain the mining plan
• Interpret information obtained from the implementation of individual projects in order to
improve and optimize designs.
• Provide information about the characteristics of aquifers, waste and tailing dumps to work with
models for geotechnical analysis considering the possible presence of karst
• Maintain a complete model of the hydrogeological condition of Antamina
• Preparation of monthly reports concerning the status of Geotechnical Development in the area
• Support the mine operations group in the implementation of the annual working plan to ensure
the stability of the pit
• Understand and communicate safety policies and procedures (SySI and MASS) to all staff and
strategic partners working on their projects
2. • Actively participate in safety procedures and policies development, communication,
implementation and evaluation at every level (Staff and Partners)
• Implement the Environmental Management System and Environmental Cost Management
processes
• Develop the Environmental Management Plan and review it for drilling projects which need the
approval of governmental organizations
• Maintain and improve the excellent relations with stakeholders and communities surrounding
the Ancash area
Requisites
• Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering.
• Master of Applied Science in Hydrogeology.
• Experience in open pit mines and karstic areas is considered a must
• Knowledge and experience in hydrogeology of fractured rock and common rock.
• Experience in Hydrology from 8 to 12 years.
• High level of English.
