Using friend feed for reflection with undergraduates

As the moon orbits Earth, different portions are illuminated by the sun, causing the phases from new moon to full moon and back again over four weeks. Demonstrating the moon's orbit around Earth with balls and showing how perspectives of a ball with light on one side appear at different angles helps explain the lunar phases seen from Earth.

I have lately completed a seven month interim role at Sheffield City Council overseeing the advocacy and day to day management of the council's transition to 'digital by default' customer service delivery. Creating a new website information architecture based on evidence of customer demand and usage of council services, introducing new governance arrangements and the launch of a customer access channel via Twitter, and acting as mentor to existing web manager. This presentation summarised for the council's executive management team the outputs at the end of my engagement.
Tariff workshop

The introduction of eLearning led to a number of advancements in student assessment and evaluation. Conventional methods of assignment submission, evaluation and feedback were substituted by online workflows and were enhanced with plagiarism detection tools to assist tutors in evaluating large numbers of assignments. The increasing number of eLearning students along with the huge amount of freely accessible information on the Internet, require tools and services for tutors, to assist the grading of student assignments and check the originality of their work. In this paper, we present the methodology used for introducing and delivering a plagiarism detection service in the Open University of Cyprus eLearning platform and integrating it with the assignment submission process. Additionally, we describe the challenges faced during and after the implementation and the actions taken to train tutors in using the service in a proper way. We conclude by presenting an evaluation of the service, both for its educational and technical soundness, along with statistics of its usage during the last four years.Teaching-as-Research Fellows: Encouraging Scientific Teaching

The slides describe an activity in which second year undergraduates were asked to produce websites about various bioethical issues. This activity was also described in a paper Willmott CJR and Wellens J (2004) Teaching about bioethics through authoring of websites Journal of biological Education 39:27-31.
More recently we have actually replaced this task with an activity in which students produce videos on bioethical topics (see other slideshare presentations or a chronological list at http://lefthandedbiochemist.wordpress.com/talks/). Massive Open Online Course (Μοοc’s) & Higher Education
A quantitative survey was conducted from February 11-19, 2015 with 1033 undergraduate university students in Crete, Greece. Students were interviewed using a structured questionnaire from three educational institutions (Crete Institutes of Technology, University of Crete, Crete Polytechnic) using stratified sampling. The survey examined students' awareness and experiences with MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), as well as their willingness to participate in online or job-focused courses. Key findings included over 50% of students being aware of MOOCs, but only 7% having participated in one. Most interested in online courses tailored for professional skills.

Massive Open Online Course (Μοοc’s) & Higher Education
A quantitative survey was conducted from February 11-19, 2015 with 1033 undergraduate university students in Crete, Greece. Students were interviewed using a structured questionnaire from three educational institutions (Crete Institutes of Technology, University of Crete, Crete Polytechnic) using stratified sampling. The survey examined students' awareness and experiences with MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), as well as their willingness to participate in online or job-focused courses. Key findings included over 50% of students being aware of MOOCs, but only 7% having participated in one. Most interested in online courses tailored for professional skills.

The study concluded technical information plays an important role in nursing education development and recommended developing databases and information systems to help identify needs, plan services, and allocate resources for technical information in nursing education programs in Iraqi universities.

core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
