Liberty Buildpack: Designed for Extension - Integrating your services in Blue...Rohit Kelapure
The Liberty Buildpack aims to remove the hassle of running Java applications on Cloud Foundry whether it is the simplified setup, auto-configuration of Liberty and Java EE references to cloud resources, reduced droplet size through selective provisioning of the runtime, or the zero-touch configuration and usage of services. There are times, however, when an application needs a feature that the buildpack does not yet provide. This talk will start by showing how to use and configure the Java buildpack and finish by showing how to extend the buildpack to ensure that IBM BlueMix Cloud Foundry is the best place to run your application. To build services and integrate them with BlueMix, you must implement the Service Broker API of Cloud Foundry for your services. This talk will explain how to write plugins to the Liberty Buildpack that will auto wire services your organization developed and integrated into CF making it easier for your apps to use the services in Cloud Foundry.
A Deep Dive into the Liberty Buildpack on IBM BlueMix Rohit Kelapure
This talk goes into the details and mechanics of how the Liberty buildpack deploys an application into the IBM BlueMix Cloud Foundry. It also explores how the Cloud Foundry runtime drives the Liberty buildpack code and what the Liberty buildpack code in Cloud Foundry does to run an application in the cloud environment. This talk touches on the restrictions that Cloud Foundry and the Liberty runtime imposes on applications running in Cloud Foundry. Developers attending this talk get deep insight into the why, what, how, and when of the Liberty buildpack ruby code, enabling them to write applications faster and optimized for the Liberty runtime in IBM BlueMix.

Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-nomad-web-101-skip-the-mistakes-and-get-on-the-fast-track/
Nomad Web is HCL’s answer for the future of Notes/Domino. It is a (mostly) new client, built on a new and promising technology stack (WebAssembly). But: New tech brings new challenges. Many of the ways you used to solve common operational challenges for Notes no longer apply or need to be rethought.
Your priority is to find ways to minimize productivity loss and support tickets such a big change will undoubtedly bring. You need to train users, optimize the client and user experience, and deal with new technical challenges you face by living inside a browser. This means you need in-depth knowledge of this new client and the platform it runs on – all of which is new, in constant flux, and there’s not too many online resources to be found and learned from. Altogether an enormous task. To top it off, there’s some fundamental challenges such as running Nomad on Citrix (without reinstalling and wiping their settings every time a user logs in). But don’t despair: We can help!
In this webinar, HCL Ambassador and rock star Christoph Adler will provide you leading edge insights and lessons learned from working with Nomad Web from before the first public beta.
Learn how Nomad works, how users experience it in their daily work, what to be careful about, what to look for when problems occur, and how to handle common operational scenarios. Skip a few months of struggling by yourself and instead start into the new world with a solid foundation.

Your Path to HCL Nomad Web goes from Domino through SafeLinxpanagenda
Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/everything-changes-your-path-to-hcl-nomad-web-goes-from-domino-through-safelinx/
There’s no point in beating around the bush: HCL Nomad Web is coming and getting ready for it requires big changes to your server infrastructure.
Gone are the days of port 1352 and having Domino servers directly reachable from the outside world. SafeLinx is the new way of doing things and is the only way for Nomad Web users to access their Domino databases. But setting it up is tricky, as new technologies often are. We are here to show you how it works, where the pitfalls are, and how you can avoid them.
Join us to find out what a future-proof Domino and SafeLinx infrastructure looks like, and learn how you can achieve it quickly and safely in your own network. HCL Ambassador Christoph Adler is a decades-long veteran of the HCL/IBM/Lotus world and one of the leading experts on SafeLinx and Nomad. In this webinar you will benefit from his real-world experiences and the lessons he learned.
What you will learn:
- Requirements for Nomad Web in your infrastructure
- Which components are involved
- How to set up SafeLinx, Domino, Ports (TLS/SSL), and more
- How to structure and connect your systems
- Additional resources to help you
Apache Knox is a reverse proxy and gateway for Hadoop clusters that provides proxying, authentication, and authorization services. It simplifies access to Hadoop resources by encapsulating Kerberos authentication and providing a single access point. Knox also enables centralized control, auditing, and integration with enterprise identity systems. It protects against several common web security vulnerabilities and threats.
Big data security challenges are bit different from traditional client-server applications and are distributed in nature, introducing unique security vulnerabilities. Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) has categorized the different security and privacy challenges into four different aspects of the big data ecosystem. These aspects are infrastructure security, data privacy, data management and, integrity and reactive security. Each of these aspects are further divided into following security challenges:
1. Infrastructure security
a. Secure distributed processing of data
b. Security best practices for non-relational data stores
2. Data privacy
a. Privacy-preserving analytics
b. Cryptographic technologies for big data
c. Granular access control
3. Data management
a. Secure data storage and transaction logs
b. Granular audits
c. Data provenance
4. Integrity and reactive security
a. Endpoint input validation/filtering
b. Real-time security/compliance monitoring
In this talk, we are going to refer above classification and identify existing security controls, best practices, and guidelines. We will also paint a big picture about how collective usage of all discussed security controls (Kerberos, TDE, LDAP, SSO, SSL/TLS, Apache Knox, Apache Ranger, Apache Atlas, Ambari Infra, etc.) can address fundamental security and privacy challenges that encompass the entire Hadoop ecosystem. We will also discuss briefly recent security incidents involving Hadoop systems.

Kubernetes Ingress to Service Mesh (and beyond!)Christian Posta
Kubernetes users need to allow traffic to flow into and within the cluster. Treating the application traffic separately from the business logic allows presents new possibilities in how service to service traffic is served, controlled and observed — and provides a transition to intra cluster networking like Service Mesh. With microservices, there is a concept of both North / South traffic (incoming requests from end users to the cluster) and East / West (intra cluster) communication between the services. In this talk we will explain how Envoy Proxy works in Kubernetes as a proxy for both of these traffic directions and how it can be leveraged to do things like traffic shaping, security, and integrate the north/south to east/west behavior.
Christian Posta (@christianposta) is Global Field CTO at Solo.io, former Chief Architect at Red Hat, and well known in the community for being an author (Istio in Action, Manning, Istio Service Mesh, O'Reilly 2018, Microservices for Java Developers, O’Reilly 2016), frequent blogger, speaker, open-source enthusiast and committer on various open-source projects including Istio, Kubernetes, and many others. Christian has spent time at both enterprises as well as web-scale companies and now helps companies create and deploy large-scale, cloud-native resilient, distributed architectures. He enjoys mentoring, training and leading teams to be successful with distributed systems concepts, microservices, devops, and cloud-native application design.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.
