WELCOME
May 18, 2016
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
On behalf of the Harvard Business School Club of New York (HBSCNY), it is our great pleasure to welcome you
to the 49th annual Leadership Dinner, honoring business and community leaders who are making a difference
in so many ways. We are grateful to you for being our partner in our endeavors to bring the thought leadership
of Harvard Business School and our New York alumni’s education and experience to work for our community.
This year’s dinner is unique in that it publicly represents a quiet thrust of our Club, collaborating around joint
interests with other important New York institutions. Jazz at Lincoln Center and HBSCNY have joined forces on a
number of fronts, including providing co-honorees for the receipt of the John C. Whitehead Social Enterprise Award.
Our co-honorees are being recognized for their contributions to music education in NYC schools, the first time
we have presented the award to leaders of the arts.
HBSCNY is proud to be collaborating with other organizations as well, including a project with Weill Cornell Medical
College and two with LaGuardia Community College in Queens. We endeavor to continue to develop and expand
valuable partnerships that enable both parties to enhance their New York experience and make meaningful, joint
contributions to our city.
We also wish to thank the dinner chair and HBS graduate Deborah Farrington, who has done an absolutely superb job.
Debby is one of three women who founded StarVest, a leading venture capital firm, and is also a Director of HBSCNY
and an active leader in our Entrepreneurship effort. She has worked diligently to build support for the dinner and
to ensure a program deserving of your presence. We extend our gratitude.
We hope you all have a wonderful evening. We are pleased to be your grateful hosts.
Sincerely,
Katherine Bahamonde Monasebian, MBA ’07 Bruce R. Bockmann, MBA ’67

The Social Enterprise Initiative at HBS generates and shares knowledge that helps individuals and organizations
create social value in the nonprofit, private, and public sectors. Social Enterprise plays a critical role in supporting the
School’s mission to educate leaders who make a difference in the world by integrating social enterprise-related research,
teaching, and activities into the daily life of HBS. An important way HBS graduates make a difference in the world is
through their leadership in social enterprise as managers and board members of nonprofits and as corporate leaders
engaging their businesses in social responsibility programs. Initiated in 2005, the Social Enterprise Award honors
graduates who further this important mission.
John C. Whitehead ’47 was the Founding Supporter of the Social Enterprise Initiative and Chair of the Social Enterprise
Initiative Advisory Board. One of Harvard Business School’s most distinguished graduates; he was a powerful role model
for younger generations of leaders. Throughout his career he demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the private,
public, and nonprofit sectors. The former Co-Chairman of Goldman, Sachs Co., Mr. Whitehead served as Deputy
Secretary of State in the Reagan Administration and was awarded The Presidential Citizen’s Medal. The 2006 Leadership
Dinner was the inaugural naming of this award in Mr. Whitehead’s honor.
