May 17, 2017
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Harvard Business School Club of Greater New York’s 50th Annual Leadership Dinner.
Since 1920, when HBSCNY was founded, its alumni members have been diligently representing the Harvard Business School
in Greater New York. We do this with over 150 programs that enable our alumni to get involved in our broader NYC community
through pro bono consulting to non-profits, mentoring and encouraging entrepreneurs, building bridges between business and
education, and providing lifelong learning opportunities through an exceptional speaker and forum program. We also help fulfill
the school’s mission to Educate Leaders Who Make A Difference in the World.
We thank you all for partnering with us to enable our highly diverse membership to apply education, experience and energy to
support others and improve lives while building and extending careers.
We consider this 50th Anniversary Dinner to be a special opportunity to celebrate a past, present and future continuum of HBS
in New York. This evening, Dean Nitin Nohria will be exploring the careers of three extraordinary HBS alumni business leaders:
We will recognize the role of an HBS leader in the most dynamic financial and investment market in the world. We will be
demonstrating how a creative HBS alumnus can lead a successful business that makes a major contribution to community and
civility in New York City. We will be looking at HBS leaders of the future, a different breed than the big corporation leaders that
HBS has so successfully developed over the years.
A tremendous amount of volunteer work has gone into this evening. Our Dinner Chairman, Mike Fascitelli, MBA ’82, has led the
effort with consummate organizational skill, community spirit and tenacity while demonstrating unequivocally that enthusiasm and
humor are drivers of superb leadership. Many of you are here because your organizations and leaders wanted to support Mike.
Our 50th Dinner needed a great Chairman and we thank Mike for getting engaged and being that person.
We also want to recognize the extraordinary efforts of Bruce Marcus, MBA ’80, and Amy Vecchione, MBA ’84. As Co-Chairs of our
Leadership Dinner Committee, they had the flexibility to work with a new dinner format while continuing the attention to detail that
is the hallmark of large, successful events. And we thank the 20 other committee members who executed the many—often obscure—
tasks that just needed doing.
We hope you all have a wonderful evening. We are pleased to be your grateful hosts.
Sincerely,
Katherine Bahamonde Monasebian, MBA ’07, President, HBSCNY Bruce Bockmann, MBA ’67, Chairman, HBSCNY

The Social Enterprise Initiative at HBS generates and shares knowledge that helps individuals and organizations
create social value in the nonprofit, private, and public sectors. Social Enterprise plays a critical role in supporting the
School’s mission to educate leaders who make a difference in the world by integrating social enterprise-related research,
teaching, and activities into the daily life of HBS. An important way HBS graduates make a difference in the world is
through their leadership in social enterprise as managers and board members of nonprofits and as corporate leaders
engaging their businesses in social responsibility programs. Initiated in 2005, the Social Enterprise Award honors
graduates who further this important mission.
John C. Whitehead ’47 was the Founding Supporter of the Social Enterprise Initiative and Chair of the Social Enterprise
Initiative Advisory Board. One of Harvard Business School’s most distinguished graduates; he was a powerful role model
for younger generations of leaders. Throughout his career he demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the private,
public, and nonprofit sectors. The former Co-Chairman of Goldman, Sachs Co., Mr. Whitehead served as Deputy
Secretary of State in the Reagan Administration and was awarded The Presidential Citizen’s Medal. The 2006 Leadership
Dinner was the inaugural naming of this award in Mr. Whitehead’s honor.
