Name of the Institution: The College of the Virgin Islands
became the University of the Virgin Islands in 1987.
1. Calendar System
The College of the Virgin Islands operated on the quarter
system from Summer 1963 through Summer 1968. Since
Fall 1968, the University has operated on a semester
system.
2. Credit Unit
Credits earned prior to Fall Semester 1968 were quarter
credits, each equivalent to 2/3 of a semester credit.
Credits earned from Fall Semester 1968 are semester
credits. Quarter credits have been converted to semester
hours.
3. Course Identification System
Courses at the 0-99 level are skills courses, which do not
carry degree credits. Courses numbered 100-200 are
lower level (freshman and sophomore) courses; 300-400
level courses are upper level (junior and senior courses).
Courses numbered 500-600 are graduate level courses.
4. Grading System
The following grades may be assigned:
