ACADEMIC AMNESTY
Students who return to St. John Fisher following an absence of
four (4) or more years have the option of requesting Academic
Amnesty. If granted, credits earned with grades of "C" or above
prior to the student's return will be treated as transfer credit.
Credits earned with grades below "C" will be lost. The GPA will
begin anew upon return.
ACADEMIC DISMISSAL
Academic Dismissal is indicated by a permanent statement on
the transcript. A student may return to the institution after
dismissal under specific conditions if the student's appeal is
granted.
CALENDAR SYSTEM
Fall and Spring semesters are 15 weeks including final
examinations. Summer sessions vary in length. Credit is
awarded as semester hours.
COLLEGE WRITING REQUIREMENT
Completion of a Learning Community (2 courses carrying the
LC designation) without an ENGL 101 course satisfies the
College Writing requirement usually covered in an ENGL 101
course.
COURSE NUMBERING
Undergraduate courses are numbered below 500, while
graduate courses are numbered 500 and above.
DEAN'S LIST
To be eligible an undergraduate student must have
At least a 3.50 average (was 3.30 until Fall 2005)
All grades at least C or higher
At least 12 undergraduate credit hours earned in
residence in addition to credits earned S/U
No grades of U, UA or I
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate programs: A minimum of 120 credits and 2.00
GPA overall and in the major. Beginning May 2006, a 2.00 is
also required in the minor. Graduate Programs: A minimum
overall 3.00 GPA and completion of all degree requirements.
Pharmacy program: A minimum overall GPA of 2.00 and
completion of all degree requirements.
GRADUATION HONORS
To qualify for Latin Honors at graduation, an undergraduate
student must have earned at least 60 credits in residence,
excluding credits earned S/U, and have a cumulative GPA of
3.50 -Cum Laude (was 3.30 until Spring 2008)
3.70 -Magna Cum Laude (was 3.50 until Spring 2008)
3.85 -Summa Cum Laude (was 3.70 until Spring 2008)
HONORS IN MAJOR
Awarded upon graduating at least "Cum Laude" and completion
of honors project in the major.
REPEATS
Repeats are noted under the heading "R" (I = include, E =
exclude). All attempted courses appear on the transcript. For
repeated courses only the most recent attempt is used to
calculate the GPA.
TRANSFER CREDIT
St. John Fisher awards credit for prior learning through CLEP,
Advanced Placement, Military Experience and other ACE
approved sources. Transfer credit from accredited colleges
appears on the transcript; however, the grades earned are not
included in the Fisher cumulative GPA.
