The Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act, 1956 was enacted to prevent the dissemination of publications harmful to young persons under the age of 20 in India. The Act defines a harmful publication as one that consists of stories depicting offenses, violence, cruelty, or other immoral acts that could corrupt or encourage harm in young readers. It prohibits the sale, distribution, or possession of harmful publications and allows for the seizure and destruction of such materials. Any person aggrieved by an order declaring a publication harmful can appeal to the high court.
