This presentation discusses using a blog to facilitate online discussions about books assigned in class. Students are given reading assignments each week and are required to post comments on the blog responding to discussion questions from the teacher. The blog allows students to engage in an online discussion about the book even when not in class. For one such book blog, students discussed the historical fiction novel "Guerrilla Season" and were required to submit a final project responding to the book at the end. The blog was found to be a low-cost way to extend classroom discussions virtually and get more engagement from students around assigned readings.
