"Drupal is always so fast!" ... said no one, ever.
Drupal has a reputation as being a slow CMS, but that reputation is undeserved; there are many small things that impact a Drupal site's performance in sometimes substantial ways. This session will highlight many 'quick wins' that will get your site performing like a champ in no time!
Then we'll take a demonstration site that has many elements of real-world 'slow' Drupal sites, show how to do a quick performance evaluation/triage, and change the site from loading in 4-5 seconds to loading in less than a second, and maxing out at 2 requests per second to a speedy 4,000+ requests per second!
The session will also discuss the importance of a plan, benchmarking, and assumptions when you do performance work on your own Drupal site.

The world of Node native add-on development continues to rapidly evolve. After widespread adoption of N-API starting last year, the Node native add-on ecosystem is gaining momentum as the underlying technology and tools continue to advance.
This workshop, offered by experts from the N-API team, describes important new features essential to the performance of your native add-on. These new features include asynchronous operations which permit you to safely and reliably spread your work across multiple threads. Context awareness permits your add-on to be loaded multiple times without the multiple copies interfering with each other. Finally, adopting thread-safe functions insures your functions run reliably regardless of the thread from which they are called or in which they run.
Whether you are just starting out with native add-ons or are an old pro looking for an update on N-API, bring your project or work through the workshop tutorials under the helpful guidance of the N-API experts. You’ll leave this workshop with a solid understanding of these important new technologies and how they apply to your own projects. And perhaps, with a bit of luck, working code!

Abstract: Only a few years ago the move towards microservice architecture was the first big disruption in software engineering: instead of running monoliths, systems were now build, composed and run as autonomous services. But this came at the price of added development and infrastructure complexity. Serverless and FaaS seem to be the next disruption, they are the logical evolution trying to address some of the inherent technology complexity we are currently faced when building cloud native apps.
FaaS frameworks are currently popping up like mushrooms: Knative, Kubeless, OpenFn, Fission, OpenFaas or Open Whisk are just a few to name. But which one of these is safe to pick and use in your next project? Let's find out. This session will start off by briefly explaining the essence of Serverless application architecture. We will then define a criteria catalog for FaaS frameworks and continue by comparing and showcasing the most promising ones.
Create and Manage APIs with API Connect, Swagger and BluemixDev_Events
Presented by - Raghavan “Rags” Srinivas, Architect, IBM
Enabling other developers and organizations to use your APIs through their own applications and services provides a compelling system for innovation and monetization. The Swagger spec (v2.0), recently donated to the Open API Initiative (OAI), is part of an open source project for better creation and documentation of APIs. Companies are empowering developers via these initiatives to leverage the data and build apps around it. This hands-on session helps you get started with creating APIs for consumption by developers in a well-documented, secure, and easy-to-manage form.
