I am Hans Ament and I am currently 8 years old. I am from Austria. My
family and I came Belgium but we immediately applied for visas. When I was
about 5 years old my dad was arrested by some group called the Nazis. Since then I
have not seen him. My mom, brother and I then went to Marseilles, France. There
my mom got sick and had to go the hospital. My brother and I were sent to a
children's home. Currently there are about 40 kids here. Here we go on hikes,
picnics, and sometimes go swimming. We are hoping that the Nazis won't invade
our house. What the Nazis don't realize is that we are ordinary people just like they
are. I have not been able to see my brother in two days because he lives in another
house only for teenagers. I really miss those days in Austria when my brother and I
could just go out in the yard and play soccer together and other games like football.
In one week it is my 9th birthday. Hopefully all of us will get out of here safe and
someone will defeat Adolf Hitler and the Nazis so all this will be over. Also,
hopefully my brother and I will get to see my mom and my dad again and get to
live a normal life like we did before we came to Europe.
