NC Final Exams were developed to replace locally developed assessments and provide a common measure of student performance across the state. The exams test students on the Essential Standards adopted by the North Carolina State Board of Education. The 8th grade social studies exam contains 38 multiple choice questions and 2 constructed response questions to be completed within 120 minutes. It requires students to analyze sources like maps, charts and excerpts. The constructed response questions require students to use facts to support their written responses about social studies concepts. The exam covers 8 eras of North Carolina and US history from Native Americans to globalization.

Course description
This is an introductory course for students looking to establish a competence in international politics and international theory. This course examines in detail a wide range of issues, including: the bedeviling role of insurgencies, interstate and civil wars, terrorism, international efforts to contain violent conflict, military interventions, human rights, the problem of economic development, the functioning and effectiveness of international institutions, and the global environment. While theory will be touched on at some points, this course uses International Relations theory as a jumping off point to approach real-world problems and puzzles Those wishing to immerse themselves more deeply in the International Relations theory and academic development are encouraged to build on the understanding gained in this course by taking one of the theory seminars offered by the department.
Course Aims and Objectives
This course aims: … to introduce students to the study of International Politics, with an emphasis on historicizing current issues, ideas, and institutions in international affairs; … to encourage students to ask critical questions about the way in which issues and identities are represented by political elites, scholars, and the media; … to help students establish links between the ways we think (theory) about international affairs and their day--‐to--‐ day lives (practice) in a thoroughly, but unequally, globalized world; … to guide students in developing their own analyses of world politics --‐ to articulate their ideas in a coherent manner, supported by empirical evidence and consistent argument.

The focus of my observation was on how media, civic, and visual literacy impacts the students understanding of news, current events and the ongoing political discussion surrounding the 2016 Presidential and State election. I believe that the development of these types of literacy is critical to preparing students to be informed and engaged citizens.

This classroom observation was conducted over three months (September - November 2016) in Grade 12 US Government classes at Moorpark High School. The focus of my observation was on how media, civic, and visual literacy impacts the students understanding of news, current events and the ongoing political discussion surrounding the 2016 Presidential and State election. I believe that the development of these types of literacy is critical to preparing students to be informed and engaged citizens.

This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

- 1. The Great Race to the North Carolina Social Studies Final Exam 2016 NC Final Exams were developed to replace locally developed assessments, providing teachers and principals with a common measure for all students state-wide during a given testing window. North Carolina’s Final Exams for Middle Grade Social Studies courses will measure students’ academic progress in the Essential Standards, adopted by the North Carolina State Board of Education. The 8th Grade NC Final Exam is composed of 38 multiple choice questions and 2 constructive response questions. Students have 120 minutes to complete the exam. Many of the test questions require students to process factual content as they read, interpret, and/or analyze stimulus materials. Stimulus materials include maps, charts, graphs, excerpts of primary and secondary sources. Constructive Response (8th Grade Only) The constructive response questions allow students to demonstrate their understanding of social studies concepts by using facts to support ideas through written expression. Students are only allowed to write on the lines provided. Any writing on the blank space or underneath the line will not be scored. The ACE strategy is a great method to help with responding to the constructive response questions.
