1. Routine hand washing

5. 1. Routine Hand Washing
It involves washing of hands with soap and water. It
removes most transient microorganism from the
hands. Routine hand washing should be perform in the
following conditions.
๏ง Before and After contact with patient
๏ง Before wearing and after removing gloves
๏ง After wound dressing
๏ง After contact with body fluid of patient
๏ง After handling device for patient care.
6. 2. Hygienic Hand Care
i. Hand wash method
โข Wash hands with soap and water by rubbing
hands in the six movements by covering all the
surface of hand.
โข Rinse hand with water.
โข Dry hand with single use towel.
โข Duration of hand wash method is 20-30 sec.
ii. Hand rub method
โข When alcohol based hand rub solution is used
instead of soap , dry hands are required .No towel
us required for drying as alcohol evaporates in the
environment.
โข Duration of hand rub method is 40-60 sec.
7. Step of Hand Wash
โข Step 1- Apply Hand Rub/Hand wash
โข Step2- Palm to Palm
โข Step 3- Back oof the palm
โข Step 4- Interlacing of fingers
โข Step 5- Back of the fingers
โข Step6- Rotational rubbing of thumb
โข Step 7- Scrub nails on palm
โข Step 8- Rinse the hands with water
โข Step 9- Dry hands with a single use paper
towel
8. 3. Surgical Hand Washing or Hand scrub
โข It require more time for washing than hygiene hand care.
โข Besides hand ,wrists and forearm are also included for washing.
โข For drying, sterile towel are used
