http://www.fridayschildmontessori.com/children-explore.html At Fridays Child Montessori, we believe that children explore their world with their hands, their hearts, and their minds.
The document discusses the importance of teaching from the heart rather than just the head. It explains that effective teaching involves three elements: character, compassion, and content. The teacher's character builds students' confidence, their compassion earns students' motivation, and their mastery of the content helps students learn. Overall, teaching impacts students most when it connects with them at a heart level by demonstrating care, building trustworthiness, and engaging their emotions.
Constructivism and the montessori educational methodtcovert
This document summarizes the key aspects of the Montessori method of education. It is based on constructivist learning theory where students actively construct knowledge through hands-on experiences. The Montessori method views children as naturally eager to learn and capable of self-directed learning in a prepared environment. The teacher acts as a facilitator, guiding students as needed in their discovery and mastery of skills. Development occurs in four planes, with different characteristics and skills developed at each stage from early childhood to adulthood.
This document discusses Maria Montessori's theory of the four planes of development. It describes the first two planes:
1) Ages 0-6, where children need independence, order, and practical activities to develop physically and socially.
2) Ages 6-12, where children undergo physical and psychological changes and seek intellectual understanding through abstract concepts and exploring ethics. They need a wider social environment beyond the home.
3) The third and fourth planes are not described in detail.
1) Teaching tends to be most effective when the learner is properly motivated. Motivation can come from intrinsic or extrinsic sources, and teachers can use extrinsic motivation to activate intrinsic motivation.
2) There are four main stages of training: telling, showing, controlled practice, and uncontrolled practice. Learners need to be exposed to material in multiple ways and see examples or models of the skills or content.
3) Teachers should get to know their students in order to understand what motivates them individually and then tailor their teaching methods accordingly. Building personal connections between teacher and student also improves motivation.

This document summarizes a staff development workshop on cultivating compassion through nonviolent communication. It discusses how Montessori teachers can act as artists, alchemists and advocates. It then explains the principles of nonviolent communication, which involve observing objectively without judgment, identifying feelings and needs, and making requests to have needs met. The goal is to use respectful "giraffe language" instead of blaming "jackal language" to foster understanding and peaceful relationships.
The key characteristics of an authentic Montessori school include a carefully prepared environment with specialized Montessori materials, mixed-age student groupings, and Montessori-credentialed teachers. Authentic programs also emphasize fostering independence, respect, cooperation over competition, and allowing children freedom and flexibility in their work. Lessons are designed to inspire natural motivation and include a rich, interdisciplinary curriculum.
Movement education teaches students to develop motor skills through physical movement. There are 5 fundamental movement skills - throwing, catching, kicking, jumping, and running - that NSW schools are required to teach. Under the NSW K-6 syllabus, students must demonstrate mastery of these fundamental movement skills and participate in games and sports. Movement education is praised in literature as core to children's physical, cognitive, and social development, and mastery of fundamental motor skills is important for participation in organized sports. Simply put, students need to learn fundamental movement skills to participate in sports and develop social, physical, and cognitive abilities.

The document compares and contrasts the Montessori Method of education with traditional public education. The Montessori Method, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, focuses on observing each child's individual abilities and allowing them to learn at their own pace in a prepared environment. In contrast, traditional public education focuses more on standardized testing and teaches students in larger classes with less attention to individual needs. While public education provides social opportunities, many parents are dissatisfied with it and opt for private or home school alternatives like Montessori that offer a more individualized learning experience.
Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator who developed an influential method of education. Some key aspects of the Montessori method include an emphasis on sensory training, motor skills development, and allowing children the freedom to learn through exploration and hands-on materials rather than direct instruction. The role of the teacher is to observe the children and facilitate their natural development, rather than to teach in a traditional sense. The method aims to cultivate each child's innate powers and individuality through a specially prepared learning environment.
The document provides an overview of the Montessori method. It describes some key principles of Montessori education including natural development, creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking. It also discusses the Montessori triangle which emphasizes the relationship between the student, teacher, and prepared environment. Several types of Montessori materials are then outlined, including practical life materials, sensorial materials, math materials and language materials. The document concludes by listing sources for further information on Montessori education.
Maria Montessori was a feminist doctor and researcher who developed the Montessori Method of education, which focuses on creating a child-friendly learning environment with hands-on materials to allow children to learn independently rather than being directly taught. She observed that children were thriving in the environment she created and developed her educational philosophy based on allowing children's natural instincts to guide their learning.
This document provides an overview of leading corporate change and change management. It discusses key principles of change including viewing change as a process, linking change to business goals, building organizational capacity for change, and understanding that behavioral change occurs at the emotional level. It also outlines five key activities for effective change management: motivating change, creating a vision, developing political support, managing the transition, and sustaining momentum. Additionally, it discusses forces for change, resistance to change, and elements to enable change such as change architecture, communication, performance management, and leadership capacity.
http://www.fridayschildmontessori.com/blog/727/ Whooping cough or pertussis is a very infectious disease that is characterised by prolonged coughing fits, often with a “whoop” sound during attempts to inhale, and frequently followed by vomiting. It can develop into complications such as pneumonia and even brain damage, and it is particularly serious in babies. Vaccination is a key part of prevention, which includes ensuring that four-year-olds have had booster shots. See your doctor if you or your child has a cough that doesn’t go away, and stay away from infants and women in late pregnancy.
Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, can be serious especially in young children. While the prolonged coughing is a nuisance, it can lead to complications like pneumonia which can be life-threatening. In young babies, the coughing fits and vomiting can interfere with feeding and sleeping, preventing them from getting adequate nutrition and rest to fight the infection. Brain damage is also a risk due to lack of oxygen during coughing fits. Whooping cough is highly infectious during the early stages when symptoms are mild. Vaccination is the best defense against whooping cough. If a child is suspected of having whooping cough, they should see a doctor right away to receive antibiotics and prevent complications.
http://www.fridayschildmontessori.com/blog/your-childs-time-diet/ Overscheduling is easy to do and it can be harmful for your child, especially in the area of sleep. It’s best if parents limit the amount of activities outside preschool that children do, with a maximum of one a week.
This document provides tips for setting up a kid's bedroom as they grow out of the nursery stage. It recommends that the bed be easy to access from both sides to make nighttime changes easier. Drawers and cubby storage are suggested for clothes and toys to keep items organized and accessible for the child. A comfy chair and lamp are also recommended for bedtime stories. Curtains are said to help set day and night routines.
This document discusses useful jobs for children with small hands to help them become self-sufficient and responsible citizens. It recommends assigning simple household tasks that children can learn to do properly with guidance. While children will be slower and less perfect than adults, setting standards too high or too low can discourage them. Early child training through age-appropriate household responsibilities is important for their development.
http://www.fridayschildmontessori.com/blog/non-competitive-games/ A game can be boisterous without having winners and losers, including some traditional games. Suggestions include tossing soft toys in blankets, Socks Off, Sardines, blowing bubbles, Musical Dress-Ups, treasure hunts and obstacle courses – and slime fights. Adult supervision is usually necessary for pre-schoolers – and the adults can join in too, if they like.
