Halloween celebrates the lives of people who have passed away. Its origins can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where the Celts believed the souls of the dead visited Earth on the last day of October. The Catholic Church later established All Saints' Day on November 1st, which became known as All Hallows' Eve or Halloween. Today, Halloween is celebrated on October 31st with children dressing up in costumes and going trick-or-treating from house to house, performing mischief if treats are not given.
