Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain where the Celts believed the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred and spirits visited Earth. They wore costumes and carved pumpkins with faces, which became Jack O' Lanterns, to ward off evil spirits. Now on Halloween, children dress up in costumes and go trick-or-treating by saying "trick or treat" to receive candy from adults, while adults host parties and tell scary stories. Many countries around the world now celebrate Halloween due to shared culture and movies.
