They wore costumes and carved pumpkins with faces, which became Jack O' Lanterns, to ward off evil spirits. Now on Halloween, children dress up in costumes and go trick-or-treating by saying "trick or treat" to receive candy from adults, while adults host parties and tell scary stories. Many countries around the world now celebrate Halloween due to shared culture and movies.

they put lights in
vegetables to scare evil

so the light can shine
and we call them Jack

• The tradition

“souling,” when the
Celts asked for
cakes at each
house.
• Now, children walk
to each house and
ask for candy by
saying “Trick or
Treat!”

• Adults stay at home
