Daniel Pink is an author

3. THE PUZZLE OF MOTIVATION
During the presentation titled The Puzzle Of Motivation Dan Pink emphasized on
the fact that traditional rewards are not always the best way to get productivity
out of employees.
4. MR. DANIEL PINK
He began by stating that he wanted to make a case and he wants us to Re-think
how we run a business
He began by stating that he wanted to make a case… He wants us to Re-think how we run a
business.
5. THE CANDLE PROBLEM
Daniel Pink introduced the Candle Problem which was brought to us by Carl Dunker who
was a Psychologist in 1945. He stated when seeing this it is a FUNCTIONAL FIXIDNESS.
Which is a cognitive bias that limits a person to using an object only in the way it is
traditionally used.
6. THERE WERE 2 GROUPS, GROUP 1 WAS TOLD IF YOU FINISH IN THE
TOP 25% THEN YOU WILL RECEIVE 5.00. GROUP 2 WAS TOLD IF YOU
FINISH FASTER THAN ANYONE YOU WILL GET 20.00. NEEDLESS TO SAY
THE GROUP THAT WAS GOING TO BE REWARDED 20.00 TOOK 3:00
MINUTES TO FINISH WHICH WAS SLOWER THAN THE GROUP THAT
WOULD HAVE BEEN REWARDED LESS.
7. “IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO PERFORM BETTER, YOU REWARD THEM, RIGHT?
BONUSES, COMMISSIONS, THEIR OWN REALITY SHOW. INCENTIVIZE THEM…B UT
THAT’S NOT HAPPENING HERE. YOU’VE GOT AN INCENTIVE DESIGNED TO
SHARPEN THINKING AND ACCELERATE CREATIVITY, AND IT DOES JUST THE
OPPOSITE. IT DULLS THINKING AND BLOCKS CREATIVITY”
In Layman's terms giving a person a prize only blocks their creativity and thinking process.
8. During the presentation Daniel Pink
showcased a great deal of confidence
and also a deep knowledge of the
content that he presented to the
audience.
9. DYNAMISM 5/5
I would give Daniel Pink a 5/5 for dynamism. He captures the attention of the audience
because of the confidence that exudes from him. Being knowledgeable about the topic helps
as well as comedic relief. He used these to his advantage; these with the persona that he has
demands the regards of others. Which made for a great presentation.
10. DANIEL PINK HAD VERY CLEAR SLIDE’S THAT WERE CONCISE AND TO THE POINT WHICH WAS OF THE
SAME CALIBER OF PRESENTERS SUCH AS NANCY DURANT AND GARR REYNOLDS. THESE SLIDES AND
EXAMPLES THAT HE GAVE ALLOWED THE AUDIENCE TO BE IMMERSED INTO T HE PRESENTATION.
11. I WOULD SAY THAT DANIEL PINK DELIVERED HIS MESSAGE THOUROUGHLY WITH AN EXTR EME AMOUNT
OF CONFIDENCE, EYE CONTACT, AND A DEMEANER THAT SIMPLY SAID. I G OT THIS… THROUGH HIS VOICE
AND MANNERISMS ONE CAN TELL THAT HE IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS CONTENT.
