Dr. Annette Bosworth, Taylor Allis, Mandy Warmka, and Deann Naab presented on getting to the root problem rather than just treating symptoms. They discussed how symptoms like acid reflux and fatigue can be caused by underlying problems like malaria, dirty water, or poverty. The presentation proposed that teaching English immersion may help address poverty and related health issues in developing countries by providing economic opportunities.

- Constantly saw people with these symptoms
- Have warehouses FULL of meds to treat the symptoms.
- Helping long term. -Annette’s 1st trip to Haiti.
- Worms -can fix the symptoms
- No just Rosaline, but this girl.

- Education about worms.
- This fundraiser helped make it possible to buy meds for hundreds of kids.
- And the plan was put into action. Treated this little girl.
- And boys like Stanley.
- They were suspicious.
- And really didn’t like the taste.
- Signs and symptoms. 500 kids die a month in the mayor’s community.
- Treated young and old for malaria.
- The kids weren’t used to this.
- Treated many.
- Not our picture, because I never saw any mosquito nets in Haiti. Something we want to fix.
- Take a moment to eat rice and beans. -This is a FEAST in Haiti
- Eat with hands.
- Also, have you ever doubted where your water came from? -We always trust drinking it -We have ability to wash our hands.
- You don’t see this in Haiti. -expensive when income >$2 -water is luxury, usually don’t get a drink with your meal
- Brings us to problem #3 - dirty water
- Right next to water, but it’s unsafe. So FIXABLE.
- This community has natural spring from mountain running RIGHT BY. But can’t drink it.
- SO fixable! -here’s a well, but it’s the only well in a 10 mile radius.
- -Warren’s purification system.
