6. • Gone are the times when a hair transplant was considered as a taboo. In
earlier times, the less advanced techniques of hair restoration surgeries
often resulted in an unnatural and pluggy appearance to a person who has
undergone a hair restoration surgery. But with the passage of time and
advent of modern technology, it has become one of the popular methods
to restore lost tresses. If you too are experiencing excessive hair loss and
planning to undergo a hair restoration surgery, you would like to know
about certain things such as how much does a hair transplant surgery
cost, what is the procedure, will I feel any pain during the procedure and
more prominently, how much time does it take to grow new hairs after a
hair restoration treatment. It is crucial for you to know that you may notice
an outline of the new hair growth sprouting from the scalp, but it may take
up to a year's time to achieve full hair growth.
7. In this presentation, we are compiling an interesting information
on the changes you are going to experience as the transplanted
hairs begin to grow. Continue reading to know more.
8. • Days 1 to 5: The initial two weeks after a hair transplant are the most
critical. Your surgeon may provide you with some brochure with printed
instructions on how to care for the newly transplanted grafts. For the first
few days, you may experience itching, swelling and discomfort on the
forehead and at the back of the head from where the grafts have been
extracted for implantation. The skin may also look red around the tiny
incisions in the recipient areas. This redness usually goes away after one or
two weeks.
• Days 6 to 10: After 6 to 10 days of the procedure, the swelling and redness
should go away completely. During this phase, you may notice a crust
formed for each transplanted follicular unit. The crust is nothing, but the
attached layer of skin drying out. It can be removed by the surgeon by
soaking the crust and gently rubbing it. Also, the staples and sutures will be
removed during this period.
9. • Week 2 to 3: During this time, a person who had got the hair transplant
done will experience shedding of transplanted hairs and they may
completely disappear by the end of 3rd/4th week. Also, the scabs and the
redness observed after the procedure will generally vanish away by the end
of the second week.
10. • You should not worry about the hair fall as this is a normal part of the
healing process and is totally expected. The actual follicle and bulb are still
bedded under the scalp and the new hairs will soon begin to sprout out of
them.
• Month 1 to Month 2: During this phase, the hair follicles have entered into
the resting phase of their cycle. The length of the resting phase may vary in
each patient at this stage, you will appear same as you did before
undergoing the surgery. After 1 month, you can style your hair as per your
choice.
• Months 2 to 4: By this time, the visibility of the new growth is enhanced
and it becomes more noticeable. , however, the growth of the hair may vary
in each patient. At this time, there is no redness in the scalp and the donor
area should have recovered well.
11. • Months 5 to 9: During this time, patients will start to see a
considerable amount of hairs on their scalp. The hairs during this
time are usually thinner and may range around 3 inches in length. By
the end of this period, the hairs will undergo textural changes and
will start to thicken up. Also, the donor area will be completely
healed at this point.
• Year 1: After one year of hair transplant, the patients usually
achieve about 80% of the growth of the transplanted hairs with a
noticeable curvature.
• Year 2: You now have been living with the transplanted hairs on
your scalp for over a year. That's truly amazing, final appearance of
the hair transplant is appreciated. Also, note that the growth may
vary depending on each individual. Additionally, a person notices an
increase in the density of and harnesses the joy of having a head full
of voluminous, lustrous and thick tresses.
