Haggai asks the priests about laws concerning holy and unclean things. If holy meat touches bread or other food, the food does not become holy, but if an unclean person touches food, it becomes unclean. Haggai says the people are like the unclean person - everything they do is unclean because the temple of the Lord lays in ruins, with no work being done on it. The people should consider rebuilding the temple from that day forward.
