This document discusses migrating Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) 12c. It outlines Cognizant's solution approach, including using an ODA virtualized environment with two OMS VMs and configuring high availability. The migration process involves reconfiguring the existing OMS and agents, adding a second OMS on ODA, creating a standby database, and switching over the repository. Key learnings around ODA configuration and OEM migration best practices are also presented.
Geographically Distributed Multi-Master MySQL ClustersContinuent
Global data access can greatly expand the reach of your business. Continuent Tungsten multi-site multi-master (MSMM) solutions enable applications to accept write traffic in multiple locations across on-premises and cloud providers. This includes the following important real-world use cases:
• Improve performance for globally distributed users registering hardware devices by permitting updates on the geographically closest site.
• Ensure availability of credit card processing by spreading transaction processing across two or more sites. Users can still process credit card transactions if a single site is unavailable to them for any reason, including end-user Internet routing problems.
• Enable business continuity by using multi-master updates on different hosting providers for service scalability, personalization and software upgrades of GPS devices.
Individual Continuent Tungsten clusters already provide excellent single-site database availability and performance. In this webinar we review the benefits of combining multiple Continuent Tungsten clusters into a global multi-site multi-master topology for:
• Optimizing your installation for MSMM
• Optimizing your application for MSMM
• Monitoring and administration
• Failover and recovery of individual servers or entire locations.

ODA is a pre-configured, simple setup, high performance engineered system running 11gR2 cluster. It is a great choice for small to medium sized DBs and if you wish it can be used for Oracle EBS DB too. This paper will show you how the standardized configuration of ODA can be adjusted to comply with the specific requirements of e-Business Suite without sacrificing ODA’s flexibility and supportability. The paper will also share author’s experience migrating, running and maintaining R12 database tier on ODA.

Operating C* can involve a lot of required manpower, complex automation, or both. Some of this complexity comes from operational/configuration activity of the underlying kernel and hardware but much of it is operation complexity stemming from C* itself. Some examples of this complexity are restarting the database in a safe way, reliability backing up and restoring snapshots, monitoring the health of the datastore, and even ensuring eventual consistency through repair. As a result of these complexities, C* operators end up with complicated operational setups, which are expensive to build, manage and monitor. As part of this talk, we will share lessons learned in managing such complexity via our Priam sidecar including recent innovations in how our sidecar ensures the highest possible uptime and correctness of Cassandra. We then use this to motivate building in the management sidecar directly as part of C* itself (CASSANDRA-14395).

The more components a system has, the more challenging its maintenance becomes. Oracle Exadata marries storage with computation through a fast, reliable network, and patching all of these seems daunting. Many companies seem to struggle with it, with some even avoiding it altogether by keeping it “pending.” This session presents tested, applied, and working tips to make the Oracle Exadata patching experience smooth as silk, like vacationing in Hawaii.
Heterogeneous Computing on POWER - IBM and OpenPOWER technologies to accelera...Cesar Maciel
Heterogeneous computing refers to systems that use more than one kind of processor and direct applications to run in the processor that is the most efficient for that specific task. Power Systems servers based on the POWER8 processor support several accelerators that are integrated into the system to improve the efficiency of an application.
High Availability Options for Modern Oracle InfrastructuresSimon Haslam
Today's enterprise architect has a bewildering array of choices when it comes to building a highly available infrastructure to run Oracle. This presentation considers approaches using the Oracle technology layer, resilient virtualisation (Oracle and other vendors), hardware clustering and storage replication. It covers the core Oracle Database and Fusion Middleware products and, based on practical experience, aims to give attendees a broad picture of alternatives with their pros and cons.

UKOUG Tech15 - Deploying Oracle 12c Cloud Control in Maximum Availability Arc...Zahid Anwar (OCM)
Common Cloud Control deployments can sometimes be exposed to single points of failure. In this presentation we will be discussing these pitfalls and how, through deploying Cloud Control within the Maximum Availability Architecture can provide a robust system. Aimed at a technical audience - we will dive into giving High Availability and Disaster Recovery for the OMS repository and OMS Web Tier through the use of RAC, Web Tier Clustering, Data Guard and Storage Replication. We will take our audience through the simple but effective steps required for this type of deployment in addition to the license implications of using Maximum Availability Architecture including what Oracle give you for free under a restricted-use license. This presentation is based on a recent project completed by our speaker Zahid Anwar. This project saw Zahid provide Maximum Availability Architecture for Cloud Control which was monitoring 6, critical X4-2 Eighth Exadata Machines.
Making Cassandra more capable, faster, and more reliable (at ApacheCon@Home 2...Scalar, Inc.
Cassandra is widely adopted in real-world applications and used by large and sometimes mission-critical applications because of its high performance, high availability and high scalability. However, there is still some room for improvement to take Cassandra to the next level. We have been contributing to Cassandra to make it more capable, faster, and more reliable by, for example, proposing a non-invasive ACID transaction library, adding GroupCommitLogService, and maintaining and conducting Jepsen testing for lightweight transactions. This talk will present the contributions we have done including the latest updates in more detail, and the reasons why we made such contributions. This talk will be one of the good starting points for discussing the next generation Cassandra.

Ten Real-World Customer Configurations on Oracle Database Appliance Simon Haslam
Oracle Database Appliance is a powerful machine, yet its name hides its versatility. Certainly, it provides a great place to run Oracle databases but given that it runs virtualization, it also offers much more for the Oracle-centric platform builder. This session presents 10 different real-world customer implementations from various database configurations, to middleware infrastructures such as Oracle WebLogic and Oracle SOA Suite, through to application deployments like Oracle’s E-Business Suite. For each example in this session the approach chosen is discussed—as well as lessons learned—to provide the audience with a clear path for moving forward with Oracle Database Appliance.
