OpenStreetMap is a free and open source map of the world created by volunteers. It began in 2004 and now has over 1.3 million contributors who have mapped over 34.5 million km of roads and 91.7 million buildings globally. In Denmark, volunteers have mapped over 99.8% of roads and over 556,000 buildings. OpenStreetMap allows anyone to add and update map data to keep maps current and add important information not included by commercial maps. It also enables "counter-mapping" by communities to represent places not shown on traditional maps.
