Guidelines for 30 Mile Meal™
                                              Partner Restaurants




Building and maintaining the public trust in the 30 Mile Meal brand is central to our efforts to increase the
production and consumption of local foods in Licking County. As a 30 Mile Meal restaurant
partner, you can play an important part in this effort by letting your customers know which
farms or local food enterprises you support when sourcing your ingredients.

Many restaurants include this information in their menus; others highlight their major local
suppliers’ logos on their walls. You may have additional ideas about how to showcase your
support for local producers. We also offer a 30 Mile Meal Partner decal for your restaurant
door or window.

How do you define a 30 Mile Meal?
Most menu items or locally produced food products require ingredients that are not grown or produced
in our region such as oils, spices, and coffee. We do require that if you want to attach the 30 Mile Meal
brand to a particular menu item that any ingredients that can be sourced locally are used.

Will you assist me in finding sources for these ingredients?
We will. You can access this information by using our searchable 30 Mile Meal partners’ map [http://
realfoodreallocalinstitute.org/licking-county-oh/map/]. If you don’t find what you need there, contact
us and we’ll connect you with other possible local sources.

Do you monitor claims by participating eateries that they are using locally sourced ingredients?
The 30 Mile Meal is a collaboration of our region’s local foods producing, selling and serving partners, all
of whom benefit from the integrity of the brand. We don’t act as the ‘local food’ police, but we are
likely to hear from 30 Mile Meal food producers when restaurants claim to use their products and don’t.

How will you help us promote our business?
Annually we will host 30 Mile Meal Restaurant Week to drawn attention and customers to your business.
Throughout the year, we use various media platforms (Facebook, our blog, newsletters and other media
coverage) to showcase our partners. We help put the ’face’ to the ‘food’ for local consumers.



ABOUT THE 30 MILE MEAL: The 30 Mile Meal brand provides a shared identity for a region’s farmers, specialty food
producers, farmers and retail markets, food events, and independently-owned eateries and bars that feature
locally sourced menus. The initiative offers these eateries with a recognizable and trustworthy local foods brand
AND opportunities to collaborate with other 30 Mile Meal partners in promoting their enterprises. The 30 Mile Meal
Project is a collaboration of the Real Food · Real Local Institute and the Appalachian Center for Economic
Networks (ACEnet) in Southeast Ohio.
