INTRODUCTION
this presentation serves to discuss the discuss the differences between guidance and
counselling, stating with the use of examples the importance of guidance and to
critically explain why counselling is cardinal for counselees. in order to bring it into
fruition i will begin by defining what is guidance and counselling and i will then
discuss the importance of guidance, guidance and decision making. a critical
explanation of why counselling is cardinal for counselees will be also discussed and i
will also discuss the respect for confidentiality and, ccounselling as a non-
judgemental approach. eventually the conclusion will be drawn.
2. What is guidance and counselling
Guidance is a democratic process which is one person help or advice to another
person. According to Crow & Crow (1962), guidance is assistance made available
by properly qualified and adequately trained men or women to an individual of
any age to help manage his/her own life activities, develop his points of view,
make his own decisions and carry his own burdens (Crow & Crow, 1962).
Counselling: Is a number of procedures in assisting an individual to solve his
problems (Oviogbodu 2015). Egbo, (2013), defined counselling as a learning
process in which a counsellor helps an individual or individuals learn, understand
themselves and their environment and be in a position to choose the right type of
behaviours that will help them develop, grow, progress, ascend, mature and step
up, educationally, vocationally and socio personally, (Egbo, 2013).

crucial problems in our lives.
Guidance and counselling can help us to find the best solutions that will help us
to overcome these problems.
Guidance is usually the general process of guiding someone through advice or
another manner to solve problems while counselling specifically refers to the
advising process of a professional counsellor based on personal or psychological
related problems of the people.
