The automotive industry plays a major economic role in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) of Ontario, Canada. Three major automakers operate six assembly plants in the GTA, employing over 63,000 people directly and supporting an estimated 89,000 additional jobs. In 2004, the automotive industry contributed $3.3 billion to the GTA economy. Various strategic initiatives have been launched to support the industry's competitiveness through skills training, innovation programs, infrastructure investments, and environmental technologies research.

With the restricted economic activity expected because of the COVID-19 outbreak, and the rise in inflation the revenue for the automobile engine and parts manufacturing industry has been adjusted to decline by 10.9% by the end of 2022 (Pantalon, 2022). Based on the current challenges the automotive industry faces, we must diversify our engine manufacturing and its operations to expand our revenue. In this presentation, I will be using qualitative and quantitative data to explain why I think our company should rapidly explore the ever-evolving and growing popularity of the electric car industry and develop electric motors. I will show the qualitative data which will focus on the industry reports of engine manufacturing inside the automotive industry. The quantitative data that I will provide will estimate the projections for future operations and provide fact-checked historical data on the automotive industry. Automotive Manufacturing Industry
After conducting extensive research into the current automotive industry status, where I focused on the performance and expectations for the industry's future, the 2021 measured revenue of the US car and automobile manufacturing was $75 billion. This is compared to previous years, such as 2020 $69 billion, and in 2019 and 2018 $92 billion (MarketLine 2021). Although we saw a rise from 2020 to 2021 in revenue the automobile manufacturing industry revenue will continue to not keep pace with previous years. As the domestic demand for new vehicles trends higher, three automotive hubs are expected to gain greater traction over the next few years. With that said the US automotive industry is heavily established in the Great Lakes region. This region represents just over 36% of the automobile manufacturers in the US. Some of the most successful automobile making are located here which include the Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Fiat Chrysler. All these manufacturers are in Michigan which makes up 15% of all automobile manufacturing revenue in the US. With that said there are 2 more regions where automobile manufacturers operate that make up 50% of all us manufacturers' locations. The Regions are the West Region, making up 25.4% of the industry locations, and the Southeast Region, making up 24.6% of the industry locations. After conducting research, the consumer's current mindset is shifting towards a “greener” option for the automobile. This option would have a smaller carbon footprint, providing an increase in producing vehicles that are more environmentally friendly. As a result of this new stance on a “greener” option by the consumer the hybrid and the electric car are gaining popularity and are expected to multiply over the next five years (MarketLine 2018). “In 2025 the North American hybri.

This report covers filing trends of the above mentioned companies along with status of Patents, International Patent
Classification and Priority Date. The study also provides the filing trends and status in the field of engineering to

The electric car industry is still in the nascent stage of growth. The electric car market is majorly concentrated
in US and Japanese market. There is an increasing trend in the formation of Joint Ventures in research of
electric battery technology by the automobile companies. Electronic and electronic components manufacturing
companies like Samsung are filing patents in the electric car segment. This shows that electronic companies
are planning to enter the electric automobile market. Developing low cost batteries, providing long range and
government support are essential for success of mass-market electric vehicle industry.
The major automobile companies have filed patents in electrical machinery and transport segments. This shows
that the investment is majorly done in battery and power train technologies. Though Tesla motors started recently
in 2003, it is competing with top automobile companies like Toyota, Nissan, Ford and General Motors which
were established nearly 100 years ago. Tesla patents are referred by all the major automobile companies and
automobile component manufacturing companies. Tesla motors are followed by General motors which show
that GM considers Tesla a direct competitor for the company in the electric car segment. Tesla motors did not cite
any other patents filed by other automobile companies. This shows that Tesla motors is leading other automobile
companies in technology research. Toyota motors have cited patents of all the other major automobile companies
which shows that Toyota is following technological research of all the other major automobile companies

Tesla’s Entry into the U.S. Auto Industry

In March 2016, CEO Elon Musk unveiled the company’s latest electric car, the Model 3, in front of an
audience of 800 Tesla owners and fans. Musk enthusiastically explained how Tesla’s earlier electric
vehicles (EVs) – the Roadster, Models S and X – had paved the way for the company to design and
manufacture an EV “for the masses.” The baseline $35,000 Model 3 could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles
per hour in six seconds, and its 75-kilowatt hour (kWh) battery had a range of 220 miles (the range
increased to 310 miles with a long-range battery option). Deliveries of the car would begin at the end
of 2017. Musk boasted to the audience that the company had already secured 115,000 pre-ordered cars
at $1,000 per car (a number that would grow to 500,000 pre-orders by 2018).1
By August 2018, Musk’s enthusiasm had turned to misery, laid bare in a New York Times article entitled
“Elon Musk Details ‘Excruciating’ Personal Toll of Tesla Turmoil.”2 Working up to 120 hours a week
and sleeping on the factory floor, Musk was closely supervising the production of the Model 3. He
described Tesla as being in a state of “production hell.” The company had paused production in late
February and again in April to work out bottlenecks in its highly automated factory, staffed with over
1,000 robots.3
During a call with equity analysts in May 2018, Musk’s misery was palpable. He became testy,
characterizing a question about the company’s capital requirements as “boring.”4 But it was a legitimate
question. In the second quarter of 2018, the company recorded a net loss of $743 million on revenue of
$4 billion. Analysts estimated that the company needed to produce at least 5,000 units a week to turn a
profit in 2018.5 Some wondered whether Tesla would run out of cash by the end of the year.6 (See the

PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
