3. 2. Sometimes leaders risk & sacrifice to
break ground for others to follow.
True story of The Way Back,
a scene where the POW’s
were openly exposed to a
Deadly Siberian Blizzard.
Ed Harris’s character
(Mr. Smith, an
American inmate)
broke ranks and started
walking towards the shelter of the forest. The guard yelled stop! “остановить”,
and threatened to shoot but Mr. Smith kept walking.
The guards didn’t shoot and allowed him to lead the way to cover, then
ordering all other prisoners to also take cover in the woods.

4. 3. Good leaders need to think outside the
box as opposed to be regimented.
Men In Black movie scene*,
this scene shows a stark
contrast between “the regimented
attitudes of his fellow candidates
and Edwards’ own (Will Smith) –
if irreverent – capacity to think
outside the box”.
During a shooting range training session, Edward ignores the alien stereotypes
and instead targets the young girl carrying books on quantum physics.
This scene shows the importance of looking beyond what would appear obvious
and thereby challenging convention.

5. 4. Good leaders have a sense of humour
and courage of their convictions.
Patch Adams (Robin Williams)
shakes up established medical
thinking with his philosophy
that laughter is the best medicine –
and that “it is the patient
who should be treated rather than
just the disease”.
Patch is passionately committed to his convictions, and this is evident in
this scene, where his emotional appeal to the board during which he
directly challenges established medical practice with his ideas.
“He wins friends and supporters with the force of his convictions”.

6. 5. You don't need permission or a title to
show leadership. A passionate cause is
sufficient.
Calendar Girls tells the true story of eleven
middle-aged English women who pose nude
for their annual Women's Institute (WI)
calendar as a fund-raiser for the local
hospital.
Facing a ban of their calendar, Chris (Helen
Mirren) and Annie (Julie Walters) passionately
pitch their cause and successfully challenge
the status quo.
They were not “officially” leaders, however
they did show the one of highest leadership
qualities (IMO) to take a stand and persist again
dogmatic opposition.

7. To apply these leadership qualities – is not
a science! It’s a human ability to fight
fairly & creatively. Leadership is more art
than science!
