Henry VIII was an accomplished king of England who had six wives and established the Church of England. He married his brother's wife Catherine of Aragon to try and have a male heir, but she only gave birth to a daughter. This led Henry to declare himself head of the new Church of England so he could divorce Catherine. His next wife Anne Boleyn was also a disappointment and executed. His son Edward VI was born to Jane Seymour, but she died after childbirth. Henry later divorced Anne of Cleves and had Catherine Howard executed for adultery. He wanted a strong male heir to secure the throne and invested in the navy to strengthen England.
