PROFILE
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
9/2013-7/2015 Senior Design Engineer MtronPTI
Main Responsibilities:
• Ansys HFSS 3-D full wave and equivalent circuit simulation of branched and cascaded
discontinuities to design lumped element, cavity, and mechanically tuned microwave filters for
military OEM's
• Create 90% of Solidworks 3D models, drawings, and ECO's for my designs
• New business development through analysis of passive electronics subsystem signal integrity
• Simulate connector interfaces from our modules to waveguide, coaxial, or PCB.
Key Achievements
• 3-D full wave calibrated combline rod spacing lookup table accurate for 3-15 sections, 500-10000
MHz, and 1-25% bandwidth
• Transformed a colleague's failed dual directional detector with a cutting-edge microstrip contour to
greatly improve directivity, coupling flatness, and eliminate a dual layer housing
• Converted Trilithic's (no people, drawings only) mechanically tunable filter product line to MtronPTI
standard processes. My hard work resulted in 80 units shipped spanning 15 bandpass or band reject
octave tuning models covering 50-4000 MHz, 2-5% bandwidths, and 3 or 5 poles.
2/2012 – 5/2013 Project Engineer L3 Narda Microwave West
Main Responsibilities:
• Design military and space qualified waveguide and cavity filters, microstrip power dividers, and RF
detectors.
• Technical expert at customer design and manufacturing readiness reviews
• Author of radiation, leak rate, failure modes and effects(FMEA), worst case, and reliability reports
• Lead R&D efforts to improve flight hardware cost, performance and schedule
Key Achievements
• Troubleshooting to rescued an inherited GOES-R 8220 MHz cylindrical eight order dual mode filter
from an untunable coupling matrix and invar/aluminum interface temperature stability problems
• HFSS 3-D full wave simulation of all dimensions of an AMOS-6 1935-2340 MHz with group delay
compensating cross coupling to preserve passband signal integrity. Filter tuned with first pass success
in one hour.
• Designed high bandwidth hermetic WR42-coaxial-quartz microstrip connector for a bare die detector
• Introduced company to PCB embedded resistors to improve power divider isolation
11/2005 – 9/2011 Senior Development Engineer Rymsa Micro Communications
Main Responsibilities:
• Design high power waveguide filters, multiplexers, antenna feeds, and terminations for TV broadcast
and particle physics customers
Expert 3-D full wave modeller of connectors and microwave channel discontinuities. Add my
cutting edge simulations of high bandwidth channels to your design team.
Skills: Ansys HFSS 3D, Genesys circuit based channel simulation, Solidworks 2015, Autocad LT,
Genesys, network analyzer testing, LT Spice transient simulation, Visual Basic 6.0 for automated
testing
2. • Manage cost and schedule with field engineering at TV transmitter sites
• Autocad 2D drawings when drafting department was overloaded
Key Achievements
• Designed 100 KW 470-806 MHz tandem hybrid coupler while bypassing an existing patent. This key
component enabled 20 broadband multichannel combiner contract awards.
• Over eighty unique diplexers, triplexers, multiplexers, and transmit filters. Only one required rework.
• Led successful project to remove, repair, and reinstall 1000 feet of WR1500 waveguide on a KNLC
broadcast tower. This required me to lead a team of tower climbing crew members, a local machine
shop, station technicians, and temporary workers.
• In field gated time domain reflectometry (TDR) to greatly improve signal integrity of KAMR coaxial
antenna feed line elbow complex.
• 200 KW four channel UHF electronic warfare multiplexer for the Naval Air Warfare Center. My skill
with full wave simulation and equivalent circuit software resulted one day tuning and assembly
without rework.
• Quick turnaround and profitable delivery of seven unique WR284 waveguide band reject filters for
FAA radar interference mitigation
1982 –2005 Other Professional Experience
• Hughes Aircraft Space and Communications Group seven years of design, test, and tuning of space
qualified microwave filters and multiplexers
• RF Products Inc. ten years of design of mechanically and PIN diode tuned VHF and UHF tunable
filters and multiplexers for military co-site interference reduction systems
