This document summarizes the benefits of LED lights compared to incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. LED lights are more energy efficient, produce less heat, and last significantly longer. They use semiconductor diodes to generate light with high efficiency, emitting 80-110 lumens per watt compared to 14 lumens/watt for incandescents and 60 lumens/watt for fluorescents. Widespread use of LEDs could reduce US electricity use for lighting by 1/3 by 2030, saving billions and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to millions of cars.
