The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a large area of floating trash in the North Pacific Ocean that has formed from trash entering waterways and becoming trapped in oceanic currents. This trash gets washed into the ocean, caught in ocean currents, and becomes trapped in the Pacific gyre where it remains and forms the large garbage patch, which has many negative environmental impacts.
