Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Grand Canyon
1.
2. - an example of Erosional Landforms.
- a Canyon that got carved out by the Colorado River.
- 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a
depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters).
- a river valley in the Colorado Plateau that exposes
uplifted Proterozoic and Paleozoic strata, and is also one of the six
distinct physiographic sections of the Colorado Plateau province.
- known for its visually overwhelming size and its intricate and colorful
landscape.
3. - Created from exclusively erosional and weathering activities.
- Caves, arches, stacks and stumps are erosional features that are
commonly found on a headland.
- A land surface shaped by the action of erosion, especially by running
water.
4. - sometimes called “George”.
- a deep ravine between cliffs that is often carved from the
landscape by a river, wind or glacier.
- canyons were not produced by tectonic activities or natural
disasters.
- it was influenced by water and wind erosion over a long period of
geologic time.
6. - The Grand Canyon is in the northwest corner of Arizona, close to the
borders of Utah and Nevada. Most of the Grand Canyon lies within
Grand Canyon National Park and is managed by the National Park
Service, the Hualapai Tribal Nation and the Havasupai Tribe.
- The Colorado River, which flows through the canyon, touches seven
states, but the Grand Canyon National Park is within the Arizona state
borders. While Arizona is known as the Grand Canyon State, the
attached Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is in Utah and the Lake
Mead National Recreation Area borders the Grand Canyon in Nevada.
7. - The South Rim is open all year and receives 90 percent of the park’s
visitors. The South Rim has an airport and rail service and is also close
to many transportation hubs and the Arizona cities of William and
Flagstaff, as well as Las Vegas, Nev.
- The North Rim is located closer to Utah and has stunning views, but is
not nearly as accessible as the South Rim.
8. One popular attraction is the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a horseshoe-shaped
glass walkway that is 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) above the canyon floor in
the Grand Canyon West area of the main canyon.
9. - The specific geologic processes and timing that formed the Grand
Canyon spark lively debates by geologists. The general scientific
consensus, updated at a 2010 conference, holds that the Colorado River
carved the Grand Canyon beginning 5 million to 6 million years ago.
10. Francisco Vázquez de Coronado
- The first Europeans to see Grand Canyon were soldiers led by García
López de Cárdenas.
- In 1540, Francisco Vázquez de Coronado and his Spanish army traveled
northward from Mexico City in search of the Seven Cities of Cíbola. After
traveling for six months, Coronado's army arrived at the Hopi Mesas,
east of Grand Canyon.
11. John Wesley Powell
- September 23, 2003, marks 100 years since the death of one of
America's greatest explorers, John Wesley Powell.
- He it was who went down the deadly Colorado River, naming the Grand
Canyon in the process.
12. Tibor Tóth
- The Grand Canyon map was the largest and most time-consuming
relief map.
- Tibor Tóth, a Swiss-trained cartographer, worked on during his 22 years
at National Geographic.
13. The vast majority of the Grand Canyon is owned by the
federal government, held in trust for the American people and managed by
a varied collection of federal agencies.
Grazie!
