NATURAL WONDER OF THE
WORLD
“THE GRAND CANYON”
The Grand Canyon, in Spanish, is also known as “El Gran
Cañón del Colorado”, because it is a colorful and steep
gorge carved by the Colorado River at northern of
Arizona, USA .
The Grand Canyon is located mostly inside the Grand
Canyon National Park .
About 2000 million years ago , the Colorado River and
its affluents cut layer after layer of sediment while the
Colorado Plateau rose .
The elevation process increased the flow of the
Colorado River and its affluents, increasing its speed
and its ability to cross the rock.
POPULATION
The first signs of human life in the Grand Canyon belong to
9000 and 3000 years ago. The desert dwellers were
hunters and gatherers. The first Europeans who found
evidence of those activities were Frazier , Eddy and Hatch,
in an expedition in 1934.
ACTIVITIES
The most popular activities there, are casual tourist visits to the
south border, rafting and hiking.
The valley is accessible by foot, mule or boat descending
from the upper part of the river .
There are companies that organize river rafting descents ,
usually for 15 people in boats equipped with outboard
drive shaft. Usually they go out from Lee's Ferry and
arrive until Diamond Creek . This journey lasts about six
days .
The boats equipped with
oars usually take about two
weeks to complete the
previous journey.
There are also companies
that organize trips for
tourists by helicopter ,
starting both from Las Vegas
and from the airport located
on the south bank.
It also is possible to look at walking on the Skywalk on the
Hualapai Resort, It is a walkway with a glass floor
suspended over the gap at 1200 m of altitude from the
bottom of the Canyon.
THANK YOU!!
