The session discussed various perspectives on the evolution of global Internet governance. Some national governments and international institutions believe greater government regulation and oversight is needed to replace the current multi-stakeholder structures. However, others argue that the increasing ubiquity of the Internet has also been accompanied by cybercrime, spam and privacy breaches, so the role of public policy in this area is critical. Speakers assessed different proposals for how Internet governance should evolve, taking into account technology trends and principles as well as the changing role of the Internet as a critical global communications infrastructure.
The panel on the state of cybersecurity at WCIT 2016 called for organizations to commit to enterprise cybersecurity assessments, focus on governance to establish a culture of cybersecurity and ensure proper implementation, and recognize that resilience is integral to an effective cybersecurity posture. They also recommended measuring progress and maturity.
The document outlines the goals and accomplishments of the Global Connect initiative, a US-led effort to accelerate international connectivity and make internet access fundamental to development efforts. It discusses two events in April - a working group with 160 experts and a high-level event with government and industry leaders - that focused on prioritizing connectivity, announcing over $20 billion in financial commitments, and agreeing to increase lending. The goals of Global Connect are to help institutions prioritize digital access lending, get countries to prioritize connectivity policies, and ensure expertise is available for capacity building. Next steps include an October stakeholders event and country-specific outreach efforts.
The document discusses the state of global ICT readiness. It makes three key points: 1) The digital revolution is accelerating the need for continuous innovation and effective digital ecosystems. 2) Seven economies have a significantly higher digital innovation impact than others due to embracing digital interaction. 3) While the digital divide is growing, it is now defined more by the impact of ICT rather than just access to it. The document advocates for sound policies and investments to close gaps and ensure all can benefit from digital technologies.
The document summarizes the state of broadband access in Brazil. It outlines the evolution of telecom services in Brazil including growth in voice, cable TV, and broadband internet lines. Specifically, it notes that broadband internet lines have grown at a rate of 35.6% annually. However, universal access to the internet remains a challenge due to issues of price and income levels of the population as well as coverage in rural areas. To address this, Brazil launched a National Broadband Plan to expand affordable broadband access to more cities and invest over $1 billion in infrastructure projects like fiber networks and satellites.
The document discusses unfinished business related to further developing and improving the Internet. It identifies several areas that require ongoing work such as multistakeholder policy development, improving safety, security, privacy and reliability, facilitating international agreements, developing affordable local content, supporting education and healthcare applications, and continuing to advance technologies like IPv6 and the Internet of Things. The key messages are that the Internet invites continued evolution when open standards and applications foster growth, ensuring public trust and safety is critical, and enabling entrepreneurship should be a high priority.
The document summarizes an invitation to the Global Action Policy & Trade Summit (GPATS) taking place in São Paulo, Brazil on November 12-13, 2013. The summit, organized by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), will focus on public policies regarding information and communication technologies (ICT), including effective government policies and free trade agreements related to ICT goods and services. The summit will gather senior officials from governments, industry, institutions, and civil society to discuss critical issues like policy frameworks for the digital age, internet governance, and measuring the global ICT industry.

LF Energy Webinar: Carbon Data Specifications: Mechanisms to Improve Data Acc...DanBrown980551
This LF Energy webinar took place June 20, 2024. It featured:
-Alex Thornton, LF Energy
-Hallie Cramer, Google
-Daniel Roesler, UtilityAPI
-Henry Richardson, WattTime
In response to the urgency and scale required to effectively address climate change, open source solutions offer significant potential for driving innovation and progress. Currently, there is a growing demand for standardization and interoperability in energy data and modeling. Open source standards and specifications within the energy sector can also alleviate challenges associated with data fragmentation, transparency, and accessibility. At the same time, it is crucial to consider privacy and security concerns throughout the development of open source platforms.
This webinar will delve into the motivations behind establishing LF Energy’s Carbon Data Specification Consortium. It will provide an overview of the draft specifications and the ongoing progress made by the respective working groups.
Three primary specifications will be discussed:
-Discovery and client registration, emphasizing transparent processes and secure and private access
-Customer data, centering around customer tariffs, bills, energy usage, and full consumption disclosure
-Power systems data, focusing on grid data, inclusive of transmission and distribution networks, generation, intergrid power flows, and market settlement data
From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMsSease
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.
Essentials of Automations: Exploring Attributes & Automation ParametersSafe Software
Building automations in FME Flow can save time, money, and help businesses scale by eliminating data silos and providing data to stakeholders in real-time. One essential component to orchestrating complex automations is the use of attributes & automation parameters (both formerly known as “keys”). In fact, it’s unlikely you’ll ever build an Automation without using these components, but what exactly are they?
Attributes & automation parameters enable the automation author to pass data values from one automation component to the next. During this webinar, our FME Flow Specialists will cover leveraging the three types of these output attributes & parameters in FME Flow: Event, Custom, and Automation. As a bonus, they’ll also be making use of the Split-Merge Block functionality.
You’ll leave this webinar with a better understanding of how to maximize the potential of automations by making use of attributes & automation parameters, with the ultimate goal of setting your enterprise integration workflows up on autopilot.

Internet Governance at a Crossroads
A encruzilhada na governança da Internet
The Internet is now a critical part of business, cultural, political and social
activity, enabling information to be shared and voices to be heard globally.
Equally, the increasing ubiquity of the Internet has been accompanied by
cybercrime, spam and breaches of privacy. Many national governments
together with some international institutions believe the Internet needs
greater government regulation and oversight to supplant current multi
stakeholder structures. This session will assess the various positions about
how global Internet governance should evolve.
sejam ouvidas no mundo.

Creating a Global Cyber Immune System
Criando um sistema global ciber imune
Just as people, communities, governments and nations have collaborated
globally to share knowledge and practices that have eliminated or reduced
public health risks, information about cyber risks, threats and vulnerabilities
need to be shared globally to encourage all IT stakeaholders to adopt good
practices. This session examines how greater openness, transparency and
collaboration can reduce cyber threats, highlighting best practices as well as
sound policies and regulations -when needed- that ensure the Internet
remains healthy and trustworthy. Panelists will also address how cyber
security will need to become like the human immune system—isolating and
attacking intruders even before knowing their identity or source.

Free Trade Policies in
ICT Goods and Services
Políticas de livre comércio
em produtos e serviços de TIC
Global trade is at a crossroads. Either it advances or we will face a retreat
from multilateralism, at our own peril. Without global cooperation on finance,
security, trade, the environment and poverty reduction, the risks of division,
strife and war will remain dangerously real. Waiting for better times will
simply not suffice. Collectively, we must be bolder to cope with growing risks.
ICT goods and services underpin modern economic activity and development.
This session addresses how open markets provide the most effective means
of ensuring everyone gains access to world’s best technology and services, at
global prices.
acesso à melhor tecnologia e serviços do mundo, a preços globais.

na Sociedade da Informação
This session discusses the issues and outcomes of the Sixth Meeting of the
Brazil - European Union Information Society Dialogue. The Dialogue is part of
the Brazil - EU Strategic Partnership, which was initiated by the European
Union under the Portuguese Presidency in 2007, when the 1st Eu-Brazil
Summit was held. The Information Society Dialogue addresses various of the
issues covered in other GPATS sessions (e.g. Internet Governance &
telecommunications and broadband development), but also develops bilateral
R&D cooperation programs, and common interests around cybersecurity,
strengthening the open character of the Internet and protecting freedom of
expression online.

Measuring the IT Industry Globally
Dimensionando o setor de TI globalmente
Many countries have implemented policies to strengthen their local ICT
sectors. However, few in-depths studies on how best to develop
comprehensive methodologies on the measurement of this sector have been
developed. This session will explore the best strategies not only to fill this gap
on the national level, but explore the process of harmonizing various
initiatives, so that comprehensive data can be compared globally in the
future.
comparadas globalmente.

Innovative applications of technology by youth
Aplicações inovativas da tecnologia por jovens
This session draws together diverse examples of national policy agendas,
frameworks and priority actions that are promoting the development and use
of ICTs to achieve economic and social development. These include
education and skills development, building the information infrastructure and
developing ICT national industries.
