RSS feeds are an excellent way of bringing relevant content to your desktop and keeping you up-to-date with new items of interest in your teaching or research subject areas, allowing you to control what information you access and how and when you access it.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to use RSS feeds, and bookmarking and citation tools, to help organise and manage online research material. This practical session will look at how to find and use feeds from key journals, publisher websites, and online library catalogues, as well as how to make the most of Learning Centre’s electronic resources to export, tag, and share your articles and links.

Sharing work materials, whether paper or electronic, has never been impossible, but the difficulties in creating easy access for multiple users while managing version control have made most sharing attempts problematic. The advent of enhanced online sharing helped, and now Google Apps have the potential to transform collaboration. What remains is for us to develop suitable and efficient ways to take advantage of these new capabilities. In this session, learn how an academic library and a public library have experimented with Google Apps to facilitate shared data input, scheduling, and collaboration in the workplace (and beyond it) using Google Docs, Calendar, and more.

The techniques include using LIKE and ILIKE operators and integrating a trigram-based search to handle potential misspellings, thereby increasing the search accuracy.
We'll also discuss how the azure_ai extension on PostgreSQL databases in Azure and Azure AI Services were utilized to create vectors from user input, a feature beneficial when users wish to find specific items based on text prompts. From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMs
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.

- 3. What’s Google Documents? • Google documents is a free web-based office application • It’s an SAAS (Software As A Service) • Word Processor, presentations , excel sheets, and forms
- 4. How to access Google Docs? There’re two similar methods: 1. http://docs.google.com with your google account 2. Directly from your Gmail account, on the top left, there’s a link “Documents” will lead you there.
- 5. Upload & Download • You can upload any desired document to your Google Documents account, and make it accessible all the time from anywhere you can be. • You don’t have to store on your hard disk, all can be in one place, online , with very secure access to them. • Any document can be downloaded in many formats (PDF, HTML) and the other regular formats for it.
- 6. Templates, Sharing & History • There’re templates available for everything (resume, photo albums, calculations , etc) • You can choose members to share the document with you (as viewers or as collaborators ) • Sharing saves time, make things more flexible and very effective. • You can revise the older versions of you document, compare them, and even retrieve back to an older one.
- 7. Using Forms • Create a form with everything you need to ask about. • Send the form to members to fill • Each submit in the form will be saved in an excel sheet with all the results organized. • Saves so much time, instead of receiving every single document by itself.
