Part of a 430 acre plus community, the 7347 yard Jaypee Greens Golf
course complex is a combination of a championship 18 hole, Par 72
Greg Norman design course and a pretty 9 hole, Par 3 layout designed
by Graham Cooke and Associates. Operational since June 2000, the
Jaypee Greens Greg Norman golf course is very long with plenty of
hazards - both water and bunkers. The visually striking bunkers are
reminiscent of the classic Melbourne sand-belt courses. The course
landscaping includes open and closed woodlands, shrub lands, wetlands
and wild grass areas. The course has 88 bunkers, water in plenty and
with strong winds can be a handful. With a large member community,
the course has grown in stature over the years and has staged quite a few
tournaments on both the Amateur and Professional circuit.

The first ever Nicklaus design course in South Asia. The golf course
comprises 27 holes of 3 nines each, (The Ridge, The Valley and The
Canyon), which bear witness to the Master’s virtuosity and golfing skills.
The resort has been built over a 300 acre expanse, at the foothills of the
picturesque Aravallis, about an hour and a half drive from Delhi and a
pleasant 40 min drive from central Gurgaon. The course is a wonderful
design that tests different aspects of your game – with long and short
holes, undulating greens, plenty of bunkers and strategically positioned
water bodies. Its a thinking course as you do not need a driver off the
tee on every Par 4 for example. Some Pin positions, especially the front
ones, need to be played with caution as the greens are often very narrow
at the front with bunkers guarding the approach. Lines look easy on
the greens but once you putt you do realise that the subtle variations in
contours and shape can play havoc with your putting stats.

The Rambagh Golf Club is a picturesque course strategically located
close to the Ambedkar circle. A game of golf here will transport you into
the bygone days as you catch glimpses of the Rambagh Palace Hotel,
The Moti Doongariand Nahargarh Forts and the Birla Planetarium.
The origins of the Rambagh Golf Club date back to October 1944.
RajmataGayatriDeviof Jaipuristhefounderandlife-longcaptainof the
club. After she returned from Gulmarg in October 1944 from a holiday
where she got keen on playing golf, she requested the permission of the
late king to lay a course on the Rambagh Palace grounds for which he
readily agreed. With the help of seasoned golfers, an interesting course
was laid out. The Fairways were rough and full of burrs that would stick
to players’ shoes and socks, the browns were true and good. More and
more people wanted to learn to play golf and so Mr. H. Duckworth, a
professional from Kolkata, was invited to coach them.

This Ranjit Nanda designed, hill station course will take your breath
away with its sheer beauty and design. This has to be on your list of
courses to play on. Set in the pretty town of Pahalgam and surrounded
by soaring, fir-covered mountains with bare, snow-capped peaks the
course is set in a large bowl shaped expanse. At an altitude of 7250 plus
feet, the ball will travel a good 8% further but that does not make this
course any less challenging. The breathtaking beauty of the course is
enhanced by the snow capped hills that tend to lull you into a state of
exhilaration and get your adrenalin pumping. The course is long, has
changes in elevation that make for a dramatic game, has water in play
on 6 holes, has bunkers of all sizes and shapes and has its fair share
of hazards and OB areas making it a course that will test your skills,
strategy and patience. The greens are fast and true with bent grass. With
the clean, pure and re-vitalizing air of Pahalgam for company this is the
closest you will get to attaining nirvana while playing your game.
With the Zabarwan Hills in the background and Dal Lake around the
corner, the Royal Springs Golf Course is easily one of the most stunning
and breathtaking golf courses you would play in India. The course is
spread over 300 acres of rolling hills, native deciduous forest, lakes,
wilderness with the occasional marsh. Don’t be surprised if you spot the
rare Hangul lurking in the thickets. The course was built out a forest and
has huge changes in undulations and scenery making it a pleasure to
play on. The Royal Spring Golf course (RSGC) is located close to the
Mughal Garden, Chashma Shahi, at the foothills of Zabarvan hills and
overlooks the tranquil Dal Lake. Expect your ball to travel atleast 10%
further on this course. The biggest challenge is handling the rough on
this course & reading the lines & slopes on the greens. A tip we picked
up – if you are putting in the direction of the hills – it is often a uphill
putt even if it looks downhill! That could save you a few 4 putts.

It all began in 1927, with the founding of a rather mundanely named
club “The New Club Ltd.”, at Sewree on reclaimed land belonging
to the port trust. The ground was over grown with weeds and it was
difficult to cut the long grass, so it was not very difficult for Mr. Carron,
the chief engineer, to persuade the trust to sell 100 acres of it for the
purpose of golf at a monthly rental of Rs. 150/-. In 1937, 25 acres
were purchased from St. Anthony’s Home Co-operative Society for Rs.
37,000. In 1943, a large tract of land to the left of the Club House was
requisitioned by the Military authorities to house the officers and the
men of ‘Combined Operations’. The land was to be de-requisitioned
and given back to the club, had it not been for Mr. Morarji Desai - by
then probably the Chief Minister, who on hearing of this passed orders
for it to be acquired immediately on behalf of the Government. This
became a home for the refugees from Sind, whose descendants are still
our neighbors across the wall which was built later. Mr. T.W. Brough,
President of the Club from 1948 to 1950 sold some more land at much
less than the market price, a truly generous act.
Located in the heart of the city, opposite the race course and close to
the Haji Ali circle, the Willingdon Sports Club is one of the old British
era clubs. It was built in 1933 by Lord Willingdon, the then Governor
of Mumbai. Today the club boasts of an 18 hole golf course plus a
pool, 6 tennis courts, squash and badminton facilities and a health club.
Located adjacent to the race course it is centrally located. With a mature
tree cover, the course is an oasis of green surrounded by tall skyscrapers
and the contrast is sometimes jarring. While it is a very short course at
only about 4500 yards, it offers its own set of challenges - tight fairways,
hazards galore and fast greens. The course boasts of the highest number
of grass bunkers of any course in the country & a lot of visiting golfers
are often at their wits ends when playing out of them. With only one Par
5 hole it might be seem like a cakewalk for the pro’s, but play a round
here & you will be surprised with how challenging the course can be.

Pune‘s latest golf course, this 18-hole, 7020 yard, Par 72 championship
course, designed by Australia’s Pacific Coast Design, is Part of a large
integrated township. The Oxford Golf and Country Club (OGCC)
won Asia’s “Best Maintained Course in Asia Pacific 2012” as Second
Runner Up and also won the “Best Course in India – First Runner Up
Award 2012.” The course is built on 136 acres of land that is Horseshoe
shaped and surrounded on 3 sides by the Sahyadri Hills that give the
course a stunning aura. Magnificent maintenance standards ensure
that the greens and fairways are always in the best of shape. Sparkling
bunkers with gleaming white sand twist & turn their way across fairways
& alongside greens. Breeze is a big factor here & so are changes in
elevation across the course. That coupled with the multitude of hazards
& bunkers make this a challenging opportunity for most golfers. With
some mature rough & hazards, it is a good idea for the first time golfer
to carry a few extra balls – just in case.
2700 feet above sea level, nestled in the hills, set over a 10,000 acre
project development, the Aamby Valley Golf Course is often spoken
about in hushed tones. No wonder it had been voted and judged as
the top course in the country in 2005 and is a must play course. It’s a
course which challenges you to think and play each hole. Immaculately
maintained with world class training and practice facilities, the course is
a visual delight. Located within the Western Ghats and spread over 250
acres, the 18 hole championship course is a 7087 yard, Par 72 layout
designed by David Hemstock (UK). The front 9 has a different DNA
from the back nine – with hazards running across the fairways. The
back 9 has more water bodies in store. There is a plethora of wildlife
– expect a variety of birds, peacocks and the occasional deer. With a
world class clubhouse, pro shop & a training academy the Aamby Valley
Golf Course is an experience which is unique.

A preferred course for some of the biggest amateur tournaments in and
around Bengaluru, the Eagleton course is a pioneering golf course in
many ways. Often voted as one of the best courses in India, the course
even hosted a European Ladies Tour event. At 7100 yards, this Par 72,
18 hole championship course is a pleasure to play at, with changes in
elevation, water hazards in play, 68 bunkers to avoid and a whole lot of
mature tree line for company. The greens are Tifdwarf Bermuda and
play to between 8 to 9 on the stimp. During tournaments the speed
goes up to between 10-11 making them a interesting challenge. The
golf course at Eagleton is designed by Pacific Coast Design (PCD) &
is created in a manner that ensures all golfers find the course a joy to
play – the pros from the 7100 yard championship tees, do find it a
challenge. The casual golfer similarly can play off the forward tees &
still be competitive.
Set in the backdrop of the picturesque Nandi Hills across 275 acres
is Bangalore’s most premium property, Prestige Golfshire Club is

of leisure. Measuring 7004 yards from the championship tees and

Royal Kolkata Golf Club affectionately known as the “Royal” is
synonymous with the game of golf in this country. Founded in 1829,
Royal is the oldest golf club outside the British Isles, the oldest being
the Royal and Ancient, St. Andrews in Scotland, the home of golf. The
Royal truly has a history that would be a treasure for the archives of the
game of golf. In 1911, the club was honoured by King George V and
Queen Mary, who conferred on it, the title of “Royal” to commemorate
their visit to Kolkata. Much of the memorabilia connected with the
history of the club is still preserved in the club house. The course is
today an 18 hole, 6978 yard, Par 72 course with a 73.6 /136 rating and
hosts a multitude of tournaments. Located in the heart of Kolkata at
Tollygunge it is easily one of the most revered and talked about courses
in India. Playing at the Royal for a lot of golfers is a matter of pride.

The first ever Nicklaus design course in South Asia. The golf course
comprises 27 holes of 3 nines each, (The Ridge, The Valley and The
Canyon), which bear witness to the Master’s virtuosity and golfing skills.
The resort has been built over a 300 acre expanse, at the foothills of the
picturesque Aravallis, about an hour and a half drive from Delhi and a
pleasant 40 min drive from central Gurgaon. The course is a wonderful
design that tests different aspects of your game – with long and short
holes, undulating greens, plenty of bunkers and strategically positioned
water bodies. Its a thinking course as you do not need a driver off the
tee on every Par 4 for example. Some Pin positions, especially the front
ones, need to be played with caution as the greens are often very narrow
at the front with bunkers guarding the approach. Lines look easy on
the greens but once you putt you do realise that the subtle variations in
contours and shape can play havoc with your putting stats.

The Kalhaar Blues and Greens Golf course is India’s first Nicklaus
Design Championship course and also has the distinction of being
India’s longest golf course on the plains as it stretches to a massive 7425
yards from the Black Tees. The course has an inland links style feel to
it with severe contouring, plenty of water in play, massive bunkering
in all shapes and sizes, greens that are slick and sometimes severe with
the curves and slopes. It’s a course which will get you the first time, will
enthrall you when you play the second time and then get you addicted
as you slowly see the subtleties that have gone into designing each hole.
The project is built over almost 500 acres & has 801 villas. The golf
course is a championship 18 hole, 7425 yard, Par 72 layout designed
by Nicklaus Design. It is incidentally the toughest course in the country
with a course & slope rating of 76.8 & 142. That means a scratch golfer
from the back tees will play 4.8 over the course (76.8-72).

The Rambagh Golf Club is a picturesque course strategically located
close to the Ambedkar circle. A game of golf here will transport you into
the bygone days as you catch glimpses of the Rambagh Palace Hotel,
The Moti Doongariand Nahargarh Forts and the Birla Planetarium.
The origins of the Rambagh Golf Club date back to October 1944.
RajmataGayatriDeviof Jaipuristhefounderandlife-longcaptainof the
club. After she returned from Gulmarg in October 1944 from a holiday
where she got keen on playing golf, she requested the permission of the
late king to lay a course on the Rambagh Palace grounds for which he
readily agreed. With the help of seasoned golfers, an interesting course
was laid out. The Fairways were rough and full of burrs that would stick
to players’ shoes and socks, the browns were true and good. More and
more people wanted to learn to play golf and so Mr. H. Duckworth, a
professional from Kolkata, was invited to coach them.
