Debra Veal and her husband Andrew trained for four years to row across the Atlantic Ocean. After eight days at sea, Andrew began having panic attacks and couldn't sleep, so a safety boat took him home after two weeks. Debra, age 27, decided to continue the journey alone. She rowed each morning at 5:30am and rested during the day, waking every hour through the night to check for ships. After over 100 days alone at sea, surviving hurricanes, sharks and loneliness, Debra arrived in Barbados on January 26, 2002, having traveled over 4,700 kilometers from Tenerife.
