to analysis to action
• Interactive dashboards help executive
leadership explore engagement data to gain
a deeper understanding of the drivers of
employee engagement

Background
FICO is a Silicon Valley analytics software
company, helping businesses drive higher
levels of growth, profitability and customer
satisfaction. Founded in 1956, FICO uses big
data and mathematical algorithms to predict
consumer behavior, and its analytic solutions
are used in multiple industries. With more
than 2,600 employees across 25 locations
worldwide, FICO provides tools to manage risk,
fight fraud, build more profitable customer
relationships, optimize operations and meet
strict government regulations.
Challenges
FICO embraced employee engagement with
the philosophy that high-quality managers are
the primary driver of engaged team members.
Educating managers, investing in them and
holding them accountable was central to their
strategy. As the company grew, often through
acquisition, the employee base became more
geographically dispersed, and it became
more difficult to maintain cohesiveness. With
the goal of boosting employee engagement,
FICO partnered with a leading performance
management consulting company for a
number of years to measure engagement
through an annual survey and to equip
managers to respond.
“With Glint, we have more frequent longitudinal
data and an environment where managers can
analyze it in real-time. It’s proven invaluable in
increasing awareness and energy around the
topic of workforce engagement.”

Achieving the desired results, however, proved
challenging. Too much time passed between
measurements. “Managers were rarely
managing the same team a year later, so it
was difficult to compare results,” said Richard
Deal, FICO’s Chief Human Resources Officer.
In addition, the results came to the managers
in the form of PDF documents that were static
and difficult for them to act on. Additional
reports for employee demographic segments
came at an additional cost. Finally, FICO found
it was paying a premium price for the rich
content and tools, but ultimately people weren’t
accessing or using them enough.
Solution
After year three of the annual engagement
survey, FICO re-evaluated its approach.
Managers wanted more frequent pulses, more
granular results and a more nimble response
capability. They looked at a number of potential
solutions and selected Glint. “We liked that Glint
was new and they were flexible. They met all
our criteria: more frequent, more granular, more
interactive results. We trusted Glint,” said Deal.
Implementation was an immediate success.
“Our HR Operations team worked with Glint
on the rollout – it was really easy,” said Deal.
FICO now pulses employees quarterly and
delivers results to managers immediately – all at
significant savings and with no additional cost
for increased frequency or interactive results.
“For the employees, Glint has been a big step
forward. We didn’t appreciate the importance
of the user interface until that first pulse – it’s
a really great UI,” added Deal. Managers have
enjoyed using the dashboard, which allows
them to drill down and explore their team’s
data. Getting feedback at the team and
manager level has been very valuable
and energizing.
The FICO leadership team is transparent about
the feedback they receive and publishes results
to all employees, communicating that the new
measurement, feedback and change cycle will
continue over months and years. They also
appreciate Glint’s ability to do custom surveys
and plan to take advantage of this for more
specific or local pulses in the future, led by their
HR business partners.
“With Glint, we have more frequent longitudinal
data and an environment where managers can
analyze it in real-time. It’s proven invaluable
in increasing awareness and energy around
the topic of workforce engagement,” said
Deal. “More importantly, we sent a very clear
message: we care about how you’re feeling.”
