- 1. Close ups I like the uses of close ups and extreme close ups in Ginger Snaps as it conveys the emotions of the characters. In this particular shot, it is used to emphasise the females unconsciousness to make her seem vulnerable and helpless. It also allows the audience to be more attentive to what is in the shot, as there is blood on her face; so this close up anchors the use of costume/make up to link to the 'Slasher' sub genre. The use of this type of cinematography is a typical convention in Slashers which is why this has inspired me to use this in my own construction as I want to give a clear sense of the sub genre. I think that the use of darkness in the mise-en-scene is effective as it connotes danger, mystery and suspense. The females black top blends with the darkness in the background to create an eerie atmosphere which I think is crucial to have in a horror genre. This has made me aware of the importance of lighting and costumes as I want those aspects to reflect the theme of the narrative. I want to employ the use of darkness in my own production to leave viewers in suspense as I don't want to give the whole narrative away in just the opening sequence.
- 2. Typography I like the use of the plain white, simple sans serif font in the typography of the credits as it leaves an impact on the audience because it's clear to see as easy to read. It also contrasts well with the theme of the title sequence and the sub genre of 'Slasher' as this film is expected to be gory and vulgar, however the typography doesn't give it away. I may want to use white typography in my own opening to create a juxtaposition with my title sequence.
