CHRONOLOGICAL HISTORY OFGILGIT-BALTISTAN
• Under Sikh Government’s paramountcy-1817
• Governed by independent local rulers i.e. Mirs and Rajas till 1840
• After Anglo-Sikh War of 1845, this area along with Hazara,
Kohistan and Kashmir given under British paramountcy
• Raja Ghulab Singh Dogra, established Dogra rule over Baltistan,
Chillas, Gilgit, Hunza, Nagar, Yasin and Chitral.
• Political Agents were posted by British from 1878-1947
• Gilgit Scouts took up arms against Dogra rule in 1947 liberating
Gilgit on 1st
of November 1947 and Baltistan on 14th
August 1948
• Gilgit-Baltistan acceded to newly established State of Pakistan
