Introduction
 Gi-Fi or Gigabit Wireless is the world's first
transceiver integrated on a single chip that operates at
60GHz on the CMOS process.
 Gi-Fi allows wireless transfer of audio and video data up
to 5 gigabits per second.
 Gi-Fi is ten times the current maximum wireless transfer rate
usually within a range of 10 meters.
 It supports standard of IEEE802.15.3c

Why Gi-Fi ?
The bit rates of Bluetooth is 800 Kbps and Wi-Fi
has 11 Mbps
 Both are having power consumptions 5mw and
10mw
 The lower frequency of operation 2.4GHz.
so, to have higher data transfer rate at lower
power consumption we move onto Gi-Fi
technology

Working Of Gi-Fi
• Use Time Division Duplex (TDD) for both
transmission and receiving.
• Data are up converted from IF range to RF
60Ghz range by using 2 mixers and we will fed
this to an power amplifier, which feeds
millimeter wave antenna.
• incoming RF signal is first down converted to an
IF signal centered at 5 GHz and then to normal
data ranges

• use heterodyne construction for this process.
• due to availability of 7Ghz spectrum the total
data will be transferred within seconds.

Time Division Duplexing (TDD)
• Transmit signal is separate from receiver by the
allocation of different time slot.
• Single frequency channel is assign to both the
transmitter and receiver .
• In this, there are allocated time slot for both transmitter
and receiver.

Why 60GHZ?
 Millimeter wave antenna which will operate at 60Ghz
frequency which is unlicensed band, because of this band,
We Are achieving high data rate energy propagation in the
60GHz band has unique characteristics that make possible
many other benefits such as excellent immunity ,high
security .
 Point –to-point wireless system operating at 60GHz have
been used for many years for satellite–to-satellite
communication. this is because of high oxygen absorption at
60GHz.

14
FEATURES OF GI-FI
 Small in size.
 Portable.
 High speed of data transfer.
 Low power consumption.
 Cost-effective.

APPLICATIONS
 In wireless PAN networks.
 Inter-vehicle communication system.
 Huge data file transfer.
 Office appliances.
 Video information transfer.

Technology Considerations :
 Due to less cost of chip so many companies are looking
forward to launch with lower cost.
 Specifically, Wireless has a stated goal of enabling
…..wireless connectivity for streaming high-definition content
……between source devices and high-definition displays.
3/14/2020
19
Conclusion
Within a years, we expect Gi-Fi to be the
dominant technology for wireless networking.
 Gi-Fi can bring wireless broadband to
the enterprise in an entirely new way.
