EasyPost is a platform for shippers and marketplaces to integrate with various shipping carriers through an easy-to-use JSON API. We have had to build out integrations with over 100 carriers, decrypting varied frameworks for shipping APIs, converting XML to and from the carriers back to intelligible JSON objects that are easily actionable by our customers.
For each of these integrations, there are a number of hurdles we overcame: mapping values and workflows between our framework and the carrier’s, crafting a test suite to verify functionality, and documenting the services supported by the carrier and that we support in the integration. Between Postman’s collections, tests, and documentation functionality, we’ve been able to get ahead of engineering to avoid pitfalls that stop engineering for weeks at a time. The audience will learn how to utilize Postman to get ahead of their engineering team and use Postman's simple HTTP interface to prep API integrations, verify their functionality, and document example calls for the integration. By the end of this talk, you should understand how to optimize your engineering resources and maintenance of information by utilizing Postman’s robust feature set.
Emulators as an Emerging Best Practice for API providersPostman
"Modern applications are highly distributed. We face challenges related to the use of internal and external APIs and how to build APIs with agility in the face of software that can evolve and change at any time. The API industry proposes two common strategies to circumvent these challenges: API Mocking and Service Virtualization. Both have pros and cons.
At Cisco, we came up with the idea of API emulators has a third strategy to handle the challenges we were facing. As a result of our work, we published a reference implementation for Webex ChatBots.
In this talk, we'll explain the motivation behind API emulators in the perspective of DevOps, CI/CD, Software Development, and serverless/microservices architectures. I will elaborate on the idea of integrating emulators as part of an overall API strategy, dive into the process of building such emulators, and validating them with Postman."
Migrating Automation Tests to Postman Monitors and ROIPostman
In this presentation I will be covering BetterCloud's approach to creating and finding patterns for complex authentication and identifying key performance and correctness metrics for ensuring API stability. We'll take a deep dive into BetterCloud's cost benefit analysis for migrating automated tests to Postman monitors and go over the challenges and successes faced along the way.
The serverless movement represents a paradigm shift in our ability to create impressive, scalable web applications and services. Redesigning how triggers can generate and execute events can be an extremely cost-effective solution for microservices and large projects alike. Why serverless? It's less complex, scales easily, and usually costs less. The challenge today is that you may be creating these functions specific to a cloud vendor's API gateway, rather than creating the functions that are most reliable and useful.
In this session, you will learn how to create a cloud-agnostic serverless execution backend for your APIs. We will show you how to use Postman APIs with Nimbella’s tooling so you have cloud-agnostic runtime environment that can run in any cloud, including private infrastructure when required. If you are building scalable web applications that you want to deploy on any cloud or private cloud, this is a must-attend session.
In this talk, I will be covering the story of my team's adoption of Postman—from QA to development to customer-facing documentation. I will cover how PingIdentity's use of convenience methods in tests make working with our REST API more convenient. I will also cover advanced use of imported Node modules to manually step through the OAuth/OIDC process and how Postman Environment usage helps us manage credentials and tokens and standardize service collections to build out automated tests.

The Most Common Errors That Aren’t CaughtNordic APIs
APIs have issues on a routine basis, and 90% of those issues are not resolved in the first 24 hours. That’s because these issues are not caught with most tests used today. There is a huge difference between uptime and functional uptime. We will go through the most common problems we have seen with APIs that no one is catching, and how simple changes to testing and monitoring procedures can solve for that.

An Introduction To Automated API TestingSauce Labs
As more and more apps are being assembled from a rapidly expanding array of microservices, APIs are the key to accessing these new architectures. That new feature you’re working on will often rely on upstream services that can only be accessed via APIs - so to test the functionality of the new component you’ll need to simulate those services.
While APIs are the backbone of the websites and apps we rely on today, automated testing of them is only starting to grow. Join Patrick Poulin, CEO of API Fortress, as he provides an introduction to API testing, the best ways to test your own APIs using popular tools available today, and demonstrates the orchestration of API tests and Sauce Labs tests as part of a Jenkins build process.
Key takeaways:
-Clearly understand what API testing means.
-Learn about best practices.
-See demonstrations of popular testing tools.
-See API and UI/UX testing implemented as part of a Jenkins build.

Your test automation rates are too low to match the speed of CI/CD, while suboptimal coverage is constantly letting bugs slip through. What do you do?
Many organisations treat this as a resourcing problem, often approaching services providers to navigate an automation skills shortage. Yet, hiring more people to perform the same processes is unsustainable, as the demand for automation persists sprint-over-sprint. In-house testing further risks growing dependent on a scripted framework that they can’t easily access or target for coverage. They risk throwing money constantly at external engineers to write repetitive scripts, fix brittle tests, and source test data. These suboptimal processes must be fixed first – people alone cannot fix test automation ROI.
This webinar will explore approaches to sustainable test automation that grows more efficient sprint-over-sprint, while targeting testing to de-risk the latest system changes. Nalin Parbhu, CEO of Infuse, and Curiosity’s George Blundell will draw on automation project experience from a range of different organisations. They will discuss collaborative approaches that automate processes surrounding test execution, while maximising reusability and optimising in-sprint test coverage. You will see solutions to perennial test automation barriers, including:
1. Collaborative test modelling, future proofing automation frameworks by maintaining intuitive living documentation.
2. In-sprint test and data generation, rapidly creating scripts from reusable flowchart models.
3. Automated test maintenance, targeting in-sprint coverage as requirements and systems change.

Use Automation to Assist—Not Replace—Manual TestingTechWell
Automation is a powerful tool to help testing but too often it is used to replicate existing manual tests. This leads organizations to spend large amounts of time and money constantly updating flaky automated tests and test teams to suffer frustration from having to focus on activities that are not truly testing. This cost and frustration can be avoided by using automation as a tool to assist testing—not to replace tests. Jeffrey Martin shares some real-world examples of using automation to supplement testing by leveraging its true value—the replication and repetition of tasks instead of tests. Examples are drawn from several testing teams, as well as his own. Jeffrey explores what kinds of tasks are the best fit for automation, identifies which tasks are better left to testers, and provides examples of melding task automation and manual tests together. Jeffrey discusses how organizations have introduced these concepts to maximize adoption and team buy-in. Leave with a different view of automation and ideas on how to best use this powerful tool to supplement actual tests seamlessly in your own team.
Automated Acceptance Testing (and tool choice)
Automated acceptance testing has many names: acceptance-test driven development (ATDD), story-test driven development (STDD), agile acceptance testing and, most recently, specification by example. At the heart of all these approaches is to produce business-facing tests which are system tests running end-to-end, picking up regression issues and improving confidence that the code works as required.
In this talk, I will contextualise how each of these approaches share in common a three-tier layering strategy: acceptance criteria, test implementation layer and application driver layer. This is important because applying this approach requires a tool choice and each tool tends to have its own sweet (and blind) spot that is best understood through these layers.
I will first deep dive into sample code across a few tools (Cucumber, Fitnesse, Concordion) to illustrate this layering. I use an example that shows how to decouple the GUI from tests (window driver pattern).
Finally, I will look at some typical client scenarios to examine which tools might best suited because tool choice is not simply a host operating system question (.Net, Java, Ruby).

An architect’s job is to reduce complexity, not increase it. Yet the developer life is filled with jargon, acronyms, and seemingly infinite choices. So how do we know when complexity makes sense? We’ll learn when abstractions are justified and discuss how to structure applications so they’re maintainable, scalable, and testable.
We’ll make sure everyone is comfy with the core jargon like N-Teir, separation of concerns, and loose coupling. Then we’ll dive into various patterns for implementing the three common layers: data access, business logic, and presentation. You’ll learn when table module, active record, DDD, and ORMs make sense and walk away with the tools to better evaluate and justify complexity. We’ll focus on the value of keeping things simple whenever we can. Examples are presented in C# in Visual Studio but developers in Java, PHP, and other C-like languages should be able to follow right along.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

Quarkus Hidden and Forbidden ExtensionsMax Andersen
Quarkus has a vast extension ecosystem and is known for its subsonic and subatomic feature set. Some of these features are not as well known, and some extensions are less talked about, but that does not make them less interesting - quite the opposite.
Come join this talk to see some tips and tricks for using Quarkus and some of the lesser known features, extensions and development techniques.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

10. Problem:
Small hiccups in carrier
integrations force engineers to
pause mid-project
Examples:
- Carrier credentials have the
wrong set of permissions
- Ambiguous carrier terms for
services and features
Lesson #1 (Product)
12. Nothing should stop an engineer!
- Configurable variables to clearly
outline what an API’s mappings should
be
- Verified success of calls means
engineers can hit the ground running
- Tests let you string requests
-
Lesson #1 (Product)
13. Lesson #2 (Sales)
Problem:
Non-technical team members need to be trained
Examples:
- Members are unfamiliar with HTTP requests
- It is unclear where the API fits in a potential client’s tech/logistics stack
14. Everyone can be an expert!
- Collections that walk you
through basic API flows
- Descriptions that elaborate
on use case and reason for
API calls
Lesson #2 (Sales)
15. Everyone can be an expert!

- Descriptions that elaborate
on use case and reason for
API calls
Lesson #2 (Sales)
16. Lesson #3 (Engineering)
Problem:
Internal tests do not check all corner cases.
Examples:
- Deploying one fix breaks another feature
- One engineer identifies a corner case, but doesn’t share it to a central
source
17. Lesson #3 (Engineering)
Edge cases are just tests you haven’t made yet!
- A shared collection of requests that can verify
that a carrier integration is “full-featured”
- Tests allow you to search for specific values in the
response that confirm expected behavior (not
just “no error”)
18. Lesson #3 (Engineering)
Edge cases are just tests you haven’t made yet!
- A shared collection of requests that can verify
that a carrier integration is “full-featured”
- Tests allow you to search for specific values in the
response that confirm expected behavior (not
just “no error”)
19. Lesson #4 (Solutions)
Problem:
Clients cannot always visualize a fully-built solution - sometimes you need to
take it a step beyond explanation.
Examples:
- How do you implement the logic to optimize for speed and cost?
- How do you optimize between more than one warehouse locations with
the same inventory?
20. Lesson #4 (Solutions)
Don’t just share the docs, do
demos!
- Using Postman tests, you
can actually implement logic
that will help a client
visualize what your API can
do
21. Lesson #5 (Support)
Problem:
Before you can solve a problem, you need to be able to replicate it.
Examples:
- Why is EasyPost not returning a particular DHL Express rate?
- Does DHL Express support that service given these conditions?
22. Be the support you want to see
in the world!
- By replicating the problem,
you can start tweaking
requests to find the solution
- Finding the answer will
always be a better customer
experience
Lesson #5 (Support)
23. Conclusion
Tie it allllll together!
Postman can:
- Design a product
- Teach account executives
- Test an API
- Present solutions to clients
- Troubleshoot your product
- Aaaand bake a perfect
souffle!
Other Postman things we WANT
to implement
- Mock servers
- Documentation / Examples
- Even more tests
