My presentation from the 57th Annual Conference of the American Translators Association. As language evolves, translators need to keep up with current linguistic trends. This is particularly important in fields like journalism or marketing, where translators need to communicate with their target audiences on eye level and find ways to establish emotional connections. For native German translators living outside of their target market, keeping up with the evolution of their native language can be a challenge, especially given today’s multicultural influences on the German language. This presentation explores the factors shaping the German language today and offers tips and strategies from a German expatriate on how to stay immersed in the German language when you’re living outside a German-speaking country.
