Energy - Geostrategy and Geoeconomy - UNHAN - public.pptxSampe Purba
1. The document discusses geopolitics, geostrategy, and geoeconomics perspectives on the global energy transition towards net zero emissions. It outlines Indonesia's commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop renewable energy power plants.
2. It analyzes global dynamics and patterns of CO2 emissions, with fossil fuels currently dominating the world's electricity production. Large industrialized countries like China and the US are the main producers but emit much higher CO2 per capita than developing countries like Indonesia.
3. The transition to cleaner energy sources faces challenges in infrastructure development, technology advancement, market forces, and ensuring equal access. Just transition will be a long struggle that requires protecting national interests on the international stage.
Presentation on initiatives taken to combat climate change in Sri Lanka by the Climate Change Secretariat Direct Dr RDS Jayathunga at the "Framing National Adaptation Plans" workshop held in Sri Lanka in August 2014.
The document discusses challenges and opportunities around food and water security in South and East Africa in the context of climate change. It notes that while constraints currently exist in agriculture and land, water can support food security if user sectors are engaged. Regional approaches and cooperation between countries and agencies are needed to develop food and water security plans that consider realistic timelines and local ownership. Private sector actors are recognizing both economic opportunities and responsibilities to local livelihoods in this area.
1. Sampe L. Purba presented at the National Conference on APHMET - Faculty of Law - Airlangga University on the role and responsibilities of the global community for a just energy transition.
2. International agreements like the Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement have aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming, but developing countries face challenges in alleviating poverty without equal policy support and technology access.
3. A just energy transition requires collaboration and alignment to new values of climate action and sustainability goals, with responsibility falling on major polluting countries to lead the way and support developing economies.
The development banks, particularly the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank, provide significant financing for mining projects in developing countries and have focused on improving the environmental performance and formalization of artisanal and small-scale mining. These banks have provided technical assistance for reforming mining sectors and improving livelihoods in the artisanal and small-scale mining industry. There remain opportunities to support this industry through improving health, safety, technology and socioeconomic conditions in countries across Latin America, Africa, and Asia where artisanal and small-scale mining is prevalent.
Energy Low Emission Development Strategies: A Regional Overview of Latin Am...Worldwatch Institute
Overall, Latin America and the Caribbean has traditionally been a world leader in the use of renewable energy sources for power generation (mainly hydro power), with important sub-regional differences, but the use of fossil fuels grew rapidly in the late 1900s.
There have been many initiatives on renewables and energy efficiency on the part of governments and local organizations, supported by multilateral development banks, UN organizations, international NGOs.
The recent development of non-traditional renewable energies (wind, solar, geothermal, modern biomass) is helping meet important development goals (growth, access, affordability) with a lower impact on greenhouse gas emissions.
There are still important challenges related to investment climate and business model financing, but there are many lessons to share, both on what works and what doesn´t work.

The document discusses the potential for green growth in the Caribbean region. It notes that Caribbean countries are highly vulnerable to economic, social, and environmental challenges due to their small size and reliance on tourism and agriculture. Green growth is presented as a way to build resilience through more sustainable development. The document outlines what green growth entails and provides examples of Caribbean countries developing green economy strategies and investing in renewable energy and eco-friendly initiatives. However, it also mentions challenges like high debt levels that could limit green investment. Overall, the document argues that pursuing green growth could help Caribbean countries better manage vulnerabilities and transition to more sustainable economic models.

This presentation reveals three important facts :
1. Big Countries to emit most of the CO2 from the past to present
2. The Energy mix for Electricity is dominated by Fossil based energy
3. Indonesia is one of the LOWEST CO2 emitter per capita in the world
This document summarizes Indonesia's perspective on energy security in the context of global dynamics. It discusses how energy security relates to availability, affordability, accessibility, and sustainability. It then analyzes Indonesia's energy subsidies in the upcoming 2023 national budget, comparing energy consumption and prices globally. It notes Indonesia's natural resource endowments but also challenges around fiscal terms, regulations, and supply disruptions. In concluding, it emphasizes maintaining domestic fuel supply and production, managing LPG imports, balancing fossil fuel reliance with cleaner options, and ensuring reliable, affordable, and regionally equitable electricity infrastructure and supply.

The US dollar and LIBOR benchmark have dominated due to the size of the US economy and long history, but changes are possible as other currencies grow. National interests will still influence international arrangements.

Green economy - Green Energy - Energy transition Sampe Purba
1. Developed countries should bear the burden balanced with the environmental impact of the manufacturing industry emitting carbon significantly, and from electricity consumed massively
Carbon trading as an instrument that offsets emissions, in essence, only transfers the calculation of the surplus minus the carbon balance
2. Developed countries should understand that in developing countries like Indonesia, the existing electricity generation system is very significant using coal-based fuels.
3. Access to finance, market restrictions and product embargoes and green certificates imposed by developed countries should be based on the achievement of NDCs in each country.
Towards cleaner energy - a collaborative world effortsSampe Purba
This document discusses Indonesia's commitment to transitioning to cleaner energy sources. It outlines Indonesia's large potential for renewable energy like solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal, but notes that currently only a small percentage of 2.5% of this potential is being utilized. The document emphasizes that the transition must be collaborative and consider each country's circumstances, and that developed countries who polluted more have more responsibility to reduce emissions. It concludes that the transition principles of no one being left behind and mutual benefit between countries are important to guide the process.

“Amidst Tempered Optimism” Main economic trends in May 2024 based on the results of the New Monthly Enterprises Survey, #NRES
On 12 June 2024 the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER) held an online event “Economic Trends from a Business Perspective (May 2024)”.
During the event, the results of the 25-th monthly survey of business executives “Ukrainian Business during the war”, which was conducted in May 2024, were presented.
The field stage of the 25-th wave lasted from May 20 to May 31, 2024. In May, 532 companies were surveyed.
The enterprise managers compared the work results in May 2024 with April, assessed the indicators at the time of the survey (May 2024), and gave forecasts for the next two, three, or six months, depending on the question. In certain issues (where indicated), the work results were compared with the pre-war period (before February 24, 2022).
