The Galapagos Islands formed between 3-8 million years ago from volcanoes, containing 13 total volcanoes, with the largest island of Isabela containing 5 volcanoes. Located west of South America as part of Ecuador, the frequent eruptions on Isabela Island endanger wildlife like the critically endangered pink and charcoal striped Galapagos rosy iguana found only there. Solutions include limiting population growth to reduce casualties during eruptions and protecting endangered species.
