Mendel studied heredity through experiments with pea plants. He conducted monohybrid and dihybrid crosses to understand how traits are passed from parents to offspring. Mendel determined that traits are inherited through discrete units called genes, and that some genes are dominant over others in determining phenotypes. His work established the foundations of classical genetics and heredity.
